Great work again from @londoncycling.bsky.social to update their dangerous junctions map. Don't forget that there is also a map for the most dangerous junctions for pedestrians too.

Not only are Londonβs buses amongst the cheapest in the UK, but weβre making them faster too β‘οΈ
Our Β£30m investment in Haringey, Lewisham & Southwark will improve bus services and speed up journeys, supporting neighbourhoods and improving access to jobs and services.
Rapid work this. One of a number of schemes that can finally allow Central London to become as pedestrian-friendly as many European capitals. See too the Crown Estate plans for Regent St area and Camden's amazing proposals across Holborn.
Really good scheme for pedestrians going in St John St near to Farringdon Station and Smithfield Market and close to where the new Museum of London will be (part of which opens in 2026).
New data shows that since @mayoroflondon.bsky.social
launched the Direct Vision Standard lorry safety scheme in London we've seen:
πa 50% fall in people killed & seriously injured by HGVs
β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈsix fewer fatalities every year

π What do global cities such as Amsterdam, Stockholm and Edinburgh all have in common?
These major cities have ALL banned fossil fuel adverts. These ads have massive climate and health impacts, all while targeting politically influential decision makers.
TfL confirms changes to Congestion Charge inc. increase to Β£18 from Jan 2026 and the potential for annual increases. Sadly missing is the re-introduction of charging in the evenings to deter driving in the CCZ at the time when pedestrians are most out and about in town.

Speed was a factor in over 60% of collisions in Enfield in last 5 yrs.
Great to see Enfield Council introducing new 20mph zones in Edmonton, Palmers Green & Southgate.
Crashes fall approx 40% after 20mph zones are introduced.
This will save lives!

Do take time to have a look at the amazing plans from @camdencouncil.bsky.social and @adamdkharrison.bsky.social for the re-invention of the Holborn area as a place for people. So good!

...and more really good work in the pipeline in Newham. Super impressive is the amount of greening that the borough is getting into its schemes and how well maintained it is. Well done @plaistovian.bsky.social and colleagues.
Thanks so much to you John and colleagues for a brilliant tour of the Royal Docks Corridor. This scheme is vital for not just people in Newham but also has big lessons on how to tame main roads and make them much safer, greener and more pleasant places.
Terrific position statement on Active Travel & Health by the London Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH London). π

Fabulous news James. LB Newham has done a great job making it easier and safer to walk, wheel and cycle in recent years. Please keep up the excellent work.
Early days but great to see St Martins Lane included in @london.gov.uk Summer Streets. It will be car-free from 11am to 11pm (until 31 October); 20 businesses hv applied for licenses for outside dining. Hopefully the start of it becoming more fully pedestrianised.

2 years of default urban/village 20mph in Wales has resulted in over 1,000 fewer killed or injured. The data shows a 25% reduction in casualties on the 20/30mph roads. Drivers gain with damage risk, crashes and premiums down. Well done Wales. bit.ly/4ppl030
Good to visit Hammersmith Bridge and see people enjoying walking across the bridge. Well designed with lots of separate space for people walking and wheeling and people cycling. So much quieter and calmer on Castlenau on the Barnes side of the bridge.
Don't forget next Sunday 21st Sept - car free #OxfordStreet from 12noon to 8pm. Large section of the street to the west of Oxford Circus will be car-free.
Car-free day closure of George St in Richmond by LB Richmond-on-Thames brought out large numbers of people to enjoy the town centre and support the shops and local businesses. Hopefully the start of a much bigger project to give more space to people in Richmond town centre.

See Oxford Street in a whole new light.
On Sunday 21 September, βThis is Oxford Streetβ promises to be a joyful, traffic-free celebration of the potential future of Londonβs high street. Join us to enjoy entertainment, street food and games and activities for all ages.
#pedestrianiastion never works. Allegedly. Church Street in #Twickenham, closed to motors some yrs back. Yes an event but how did all these pple get here when they canβt park?? Itβs a conundrum. Well done @richmondcouncil.bsky.social - more please. @richmondcycling.bsky.social @londonls.bsky.social
Brilliant to be part of this coalition of Lambeth children asking the council to take action to reduce the number of SUVs on our streets.
75% of primary pupils in London walk or cycle to school and giant SUVs are a growing threat to their safety.

Vision Zero plans need to include measures to reduce car use. Delivering the Safe System on its own is not enough; cities also need to reduce driving. The latest AVZ briefing highlights recent research showing that when car use falls casualties fall too.

Fantastic news - a comprehensive new LTN for Dalston! Hoping they may be releasing a Hoxton plan too very soon. Well done @hackneycouncil.bsky.social π
Interesting/informative interview with @willnorman.co.uk in @ZagDaily about Vision Zero in London. Runs through the successes...20mph limits and the challenges...more larger heavier vehicles/SUvs. Good on lessons/ideas from other global cities.

If you plan to respond to TfL Congestion Charge proposals (consultation ends 4th Aug), do have a look at our blog. Some good things in there from TfL but could go way further to make Central London safer and have a fairer balance between people and vehicles.
