Amazing work by a former student!
Today's the day - the LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey is done! Huge congratulations to the entire team. Honoured to have been (a very small) part of it. If you haven't yet started using LOFAR as your go-to for radio in the Northern hemisphere, you are missing out!

What a great week ... two papers from former students accepted and now live on arXiV!
The second is from Abdul Gani - his first paper which is absolutely beautiful, showing a detailed analysis of a head-tail galaxy on its first infall to a cluster: arxiv.org/abs/2602.04962
What a great week ... two papers from former students accepted and live on arXiV!
The first is from Emmy Escott, showing the first LOFAR sub-arcsecond resolution image of the BoΓΆtes field. She shows a connection between radio emission and kpc-scale outflows of ionised gas! arxiv.org/abs/2602.05318

"The Ghana Radio Astronomy Observatory (GRAO) marks a pivotal advance in African radio astronomy ..." So true! Read all about it in this new paper: arxiv.org/abs/2601.10784
Had a great time last week at the Development in Africa with Radio Astronomy (DARA) MScR symposium last week watching my students and others around the UK give presentations on their work! And since we were at Jodrell Bank of course we got a telescope tour :)
I am a very proud no-longer-supervisor today! Massive congratulations to Dr. Emmy Escott
congratulations to @rtimmerman.bsky.social for winning a research excellence award in the Physics Department at @durham-university.bsky.social !
π₯³ It's #RubinFirstLook day and the Universe sure is beautiful! Here's the evidence backing up my BBC Radio 4 Today assertion that Rubin's Trifid nebula image looks just like a jellyfish!
You are welcome π€π
Join the watch party online today at 16:00 UK time!

Very honoured to be giving this yearβs Caroline Herschel prize lecture on dusty black holes! β¨
It's really worth the effort though!
If you want a fascinating rabbit hole to go down, the history of the AeroPress is really interesting (www.fastcompany.com/3027638/the-...)
This is the kind of April Fools content I can get behind!
NAM abstract submission closes *today* don't forget to submit yours and join us in beautiful Durham in July! π #astrosci
New here! Who should I be following? Looking for astronomers / professional astronomy groups, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds
