this, this, a thousand times this.
this, this, a thousand times this.
I desperately *desperately* want to see the trains brought back in Nova Scotia. It fucking kills me that this province had a great provincial passenger rail network and then they just tore it up in the 90s for no reason. Generational vandalism.
Do you perceive that ALP 9% as vote-parking, or pure brand confusion?
It blew my mind to learn that the original hospital where they shot Scrubs had since been demolished, so they meticulously rebuilt it in Vancouver.
Reject modernity. Embrace tradition.
Sharpton: "We're still here! We've come this far by faith. It was against the law to read and write! It was against the law to marry, but we've come this far by faith. I don't care what they do in Washington, I care what we do in the community. We've beat people bigger than Trump!"
Alberta provincial poll, Abacus data. UCP 49%, NDP 36%, ALP 9%, PT 2%, Green 2%, Other 3%
I mean, c'mon. What is this.
Massive, massive bummer that federal brand confusion seems to be dragging down the Alberta NDP, and lifting up the Alberta Liberal Party, which barely exists.
Apropos of nothing, the Canadian EV rebate is back on! Applications open March 31st, retroactive to Feb 16th.

"Canadians most commonly say they are proud of the people in their country (28%) as well as its diversity and multiculturalism (27%) ...
Canadians are also quite proud of their countryβs political system (22%), its freedoms (17%) and its βfree health careβ (16%). "
"Canadians are also more likely to name their international standing as a source of pride (19%) than people in any other country surveyed, particularly emphasizing its independence from the United States by saying things like βwe are NOT American."
This was a nice gesture, and seems to have been well-received:
My favourite part about this is, after the polite applause for the PMs remarks in Japanese, he then quips "as I said, very gracious hospitality".
Eh for Ehffort!
*sheepishly raises hand in Canadian*
It's me. I'm happy about the US jobs report.
(sorry guys! it sucks to suck.)
It's like they always say: if you want to inspire a population to rise up against a regime, be sure to vaporize a few hundred of their children on day 1!
I know I quote from that essay ad nauseum, but seriously folks, if you haven't read "Ur-Fascism", you are missing out on critical analysis that is absolutely essential for understanding the current moment.
"Thus, by a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies [of Fascism] are at the same time too strong, and too weak. Fascist governments are condemned to lose wars because they are constitutionally incapable of objectively evaluating the force of the enemy."
- Umberto Eco, "Ur-Fascism"
It's such an intuitive ritual to check all products to make sure that they aren't made in the US, I don't even think about it anymore.
You can also basically tell from the shelves, even without the maple-leaf stickers. US products are often fully stocked and discounted, because no one wants them.
The best time to move to Canada from the US was a year ago, the second best time is now.

so weird how a little thing like "collapsing into a horrific fascist autocracy" can affect how your neighbours see you, huh?
Do they give journalism awards for tone-deafness? Because this is probably a contender.
"Iranian schoolgirls are being blown up. What does this mean for your personal finances?"
Also, does PM Carney play any instruments? If the Japan trip concludes without a sick jam session, that would be a real bummer.
"The visit also coincides with Takaichiβs 65th birthday β and he is bringing her a cake loaded with Canadian ingredients, including maple syrup, for dessert at a dinner later Friday night."
I'm gonna need to see some pictures of the Diplomacy Cake, ASAP.
DARVO as foreign policy.
Hopefully the NS budget fiasco can finally drive a stake through the heart of the "Conservatives are good with money" stereotype.
Conservatives are good at *plundering*. Not the same thing as being good at running an economy.
I continue to flip back and forth between "the Trump regime is clearly trying to do as much global damage as possible before getting absolutely boned in the midterms" optimism, and "the Trump regime is clearly trying to instigate a war so disruptive that they can cancel the midterms" pessimism.
OK, here's @claudiachenderns.bsky.social speaking at the arts & culture rally. Good to see that both the main opposition parties are getting on board. It would be really cool if they could forge some kind of temporary alliance, and work together to bring down Houston.
that's good to hear!
