Yay! We need more research on implementation of law! We are finishing a ten-year study on implementation of state anti-bullying law.
We'd love to talk with you about the NY Dignity for All Students Act and the challenges of effective implementation.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court blocked a California law that prohibited schools from notifying parents about a student's social transition or gender identity change. The law was intended to protect students with unaccepting parents from abuse and homelessness.
A scanned image of the first page of a legal document on letterhead from Ken Paxton, Attorney General of Texas, dated February 27, 2026. It is labeled "Opinion No. KP-0518" and addressed to Mr. Darrel D. Spinks, Executive Director of the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council. A portion of the first paragraph is highlighted in yellow, reading: "mental health care providers" licensed by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council."
A scanned image of the second page of the Attorney General Opinion document. A section in the first full paragraph is highlighted in yellow, which reads: "[f]or the purpose of transitioning a child’s biological sex as determined by the sex organs, chromosomes, and endogenous profiles of the child or affirming the child’s perception of the child’s sex if that perception is inconsistent with the child’s biological sex."
A scanned image of the third page of the Attorney General Opinion document. The text discusses various statutory and dictionary definitions of the terms "health care provider" and "health care". There are no highlighted sections on this page.
A scanned image of the seventh and final page of the Attorney General Opinion document, showing the "SUMMARY" section and the signature block for Ken Paxton. The entire summary paragraph is highlighted in yellow, reading: "The definition of a “health care provider” in subsection 161.701(2) of the Health and Safety Code unambiguously encompasses the professions regulated by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council. Any licensee that facilitates the provision of unlawful procedures or treatments that aim to transition a child’s sex are thus forbidden from receiving public money in support of those efforts and, separately, risk revocation of their licenses to practice."
Texas AG Ken Paxton has declared that it is illegal for mental health providers and therapists to treat trans youth. It means that trans youth will be denied access to any mental healthcare that isn't conversion therapy. Paxton also threatens parents of trans youth with child abuse investigations.
The federal government wants to control what is read in every school. Not only is this unprecedented federal overreach, but it is nationalizing discrimination and bigotry. Calls your reps.
Right-leaning civic centers are burgeoning at universities across America, often championed by Republican lawmakers. “It’s basically setting up political loyalty for tenure,” asserts Assoc. Professor Ashley Hope Pérez: https://hechingerreport.org/conservative-leaning-civic-centers-public-colleges/
A person in a classroom talks to a group of students. The image has a PinkNews banner and features text about Republicans introducing a 'Don't Say Trans' bill concerning schools and transgender topics. The border has pink, white, and blue elements.

The Equal Access Act of 1984 (20 U.S.C. § 4071) is still active federal law!! It requires schools that receive federal funds and allow student groups to meet to provide equal access and fair opportunity to all student-led groups, including LGBTQ, religious or political clubs.
NH state house passes "CHARLIE Act," which bans teaching, I kid you not, "critical consciousness" & "prohibited world-views," such as that queer people exist, or that slavery involved race, or, implicitly, that the Nazis murdered Jews based on identity. newhampshirebulletin.com/2026/02/19/h...
The latest review from JAMA Pediatrics has uncovered that 26% of trans youth have attempted suicide. That's actual attempts, ideation was even higher.
The trend was most pronounced in North America, where anti-trans laws have been common.

Schools are confused about what approaches to diversity, equity, and inclusion are allowed. It's important to share accurate info on what is and is not in the actual laws and how courts are responding to government anti-DEI efforts. Share with educators you know!
Anybody else having a nervous breakdown?! HAHA same!!!!!
Let’s recap what’s been going on in education lately…

U.S. gov is trying to redefine degrees in historically women majority professions as ineligible for student loans for professional programs. This includes nurses, social workers, teachers, PAs, public-health. Dept of Ed public comments open til 3/2/26. Regulations.gov Document - ED-2025-OPE-0944-0001
The government wants to prevent student loan borrowers from getting loans for historically women occupied professions including teaching. Check out @mrs-frazzled.bsky.social on insta for explainer. Comments on prop due b/f 3/2/26.
I’m imploring you. The GOP thinks schools are their issue.
If Democrats let the party that’s ripping families apart with masked raids, throwing families off health care, and doing nothing to solve soaring costs claim the “education” mantle, they’ve only themselves to blame.
If you don’t vaccinate your kids, you don’t go to public school. That’s the trade. If you want the benefits of living in a society, you make concessions to what the collective needs. If you can’t or won’t do that, no public school for you.
(Medical exemption is caveat. That’s a tiny population.)
BREAKING: Indiana wants to eliminate “low-earning” college degrees before the federal Earnings Test is even finalized.
Degrees flagged right now include library science, teacher education transfer programs, music, dance, English, and mental & social health fields.
The Education Department announced it opened an investigation into Tufts University over its efforts to help colleges improve student civic participation — a move that could push education institutions to scale back voter registration and turnout programs to protect federal funding.
for my latest @us.theguardian.com talked to teens leading and joining anti-ICE walkouts from TX to MD to WI.
one NYC teen: "I feel scared [of ICE] every day... But I’m not going to let that stop me, because bravery is just the positive way to say you’re scared, and I’d rather be brave than scared."
This is why they must be challenged every single time. Not accommodated. Not bargained with. Just challenged.
The Board of Governors decided, unilaterally, that no published textbook in the field of sociology could be used in compliance with the law for an Intro to Sociology class. None. Victor: There's not a single existing textbook on the market that could be used that would qualify under state law? Zachary: Correct. Victor: I'm sorry, that's kind of funny. Like, the absurdity of not a single sociology textbook getting past the censors. I mean, it makes me kind of proud of our colleagues, but...
I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.
Great work everyone.
The Pentagon is threatening to end its partnership and support of the Boy Scouts, now known as Scouting America, over what it calls "DEI and gender-fluid ideological stances."
Scouting America is reportedly close to an agreement with them.

Why do otherwise rational people disagree about the same evidence? Our new paper finds that group membership is a deeply rooted influence on how we form beliefs, leading even preschoolers to bias their evidential standards and form inaccurate beliefs.
