Usually, yes.
@5calls.org makes it SO easy to call you reps and complain about specific issues or tell them theyβre doing a good job! You plug in your zip code and they provide a phone number along with talking points, if you want them. Calls take two minutes. Never a better time to be an active citizen!
It harms other kids by denying them the opportunity to see others who might have different experiences from them. It denies them the opportunity to develop empathy. And goodness knows we need more empathy in the world.
Representation is so wildly important and a topic near and dear to my heart. Removing these books prevents LGBTQ kids from seeing themselves, from feeling known and loved and recognized and EMPOWERED.
Just called my congresswoman to oppose HR 7661. This bill is an attempt to ban books nationwide and mischaracterizes LGBTQ+ content as sexualizing children. If this bill passes it will harm EVERYONE and pave the way for more drastic national book bans.
A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

I also promise that calling only takes a few minutes and is actually SO easy. You talk to someone in the office who takes notes on what you said and thatβs pretty much it!
@5calls.org makes is SO easy to find your repβs contact info if youβre not sure where to start!
H.R. 7661 is an ill-written, ill thought out, prejudicial and ill-conceived bill that should not move out of committee. Contact House committee members below, especially if you are from any of those states! (CA, PA, CT, NC, OR and more).
Don't be fooled by this bill's name-- this is a book banning bill that will exclude LGBTQ books from all public schools NATIONWIDE.
Call your congresspeople and tell them to VOTE NO on this nakedly bigoted book banning bullshit.

I love that youβre doing this. I always wanted to do roller derby but by the time I was in a place where I could I had accepted that I am far too accident prone π

ππ Happy Valentine's Day! ππ My gift to you is one of my favorite pages from the Raven and Beast Boy story I wrote last year for DC's Lex and the City Valentine's Day special! Raven just wanted to give BB the perfect day and SOMEONE had to ruin it.
Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the TaΓnos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

A purple tie dyed shirt with the words "The Joy Who Lived" in the colors of the trans flag (pink, white, blue)
I just ordered a dope tie dye shirt to support The Joy Who Lived, a trans/gnc theater and comedy festival, and you can too! I haven't owned a tie dyed shirt since a fraught girl scout badge attempt in the 90s, very excited for this to come in.
