I was using Memrise to learn European Portuguese. I was doing pretty good with it, but I kinda quit using it about 6 months ago due to unrelated stress. I will say when we were in PT I successfully used some of the phrases I learned from it.
I occasionally have dreams I'm back in high school on the first or second day and lost my schedule. Usually I also can't find the office because the building has changed so much since I was last there.
Arcade: Tempest
Console: Sewer Shark
PC: Diablo
Minor encounter: As a teen, walking with my brother thru airport late at night in the 1980s, an obviously exhausted Richard Lewis walking towards us. His face fell when he saw we recognized him. We smiled, nodded, and kept walking. I glanced back to see him staring at us, mouth open in shock.
Minor celeb, or minor encounter?
Minor celeb: My parents were in a theater organ club with Stan Kann, a St. Louis celeb. I met him several times. He was also on Johnny Carson several times, largely because he collected antique vacuum cleaners. 1/2
Hell, as soon as I read "she didn't feel safe", I figured it had to be white guys from the US.
Introduce yourself with 5 animals you've seen in the wild? Well, I've seen lots of animals in the wild, many so common that everyone would say "big deal". So I'll give 5 that I've seen relatively close up - multiples of some of them:
Bobcat
Coyote
American alligator
Rhesus macaque
Turkey vulture

Note my use of the word "acting". I probably should have said "pretending", we all know he truly doesn't gaf about the peons, only what they can do for his career. My point is that even he seems to see the writing on the wall.
I've noticed that HeeHawley has started acting like he actually gives a feck about people. We know damn well he only cares about his career, but it's something at least.
A close-up of a 3D printer in action, printing with bright orange UV-reactive filament. The glowing plastic is forming a row of evenly spaced, U-shaped sections on the print bed beneath the printerβs nozzle, and casting an orange glow on the printer bed.
3D-printing something in UV reactive orange filament. I checked the progress on the printer's camera and it looks like it's red hot metal.
I'm guessing you heard that on a certain baking show out of Britain (as I did). I'm also guessing that was their way of avoiding a copyright or trademark infringement.
I'm not sure I ever knew there was a St. Louis Style Cheesecake. <heads off to search for more info>
Not to mention how many movies are "made" in multiple countries. I can't remember the last time I saw titles with only American companies and shooting locations - I'm sure it had to be decades ago.
Please share, Public Health Alert, Chicago O'Hare Airport on 9/11.
While I agree that brain fog doesn't quite convey the seriousness, it does describe how variable it is for me. Sometimes it's thick, sometimes light & whispy, it can come on or lift suddenly or slowly.
Cognitive impairment sounds too much like a permanent condition that might only get worse
One of many problems with pain level scales when dealing with #arthritis, #EDS, & other #chronicpain is that pain adds up. One body part at level 3 feels like level 3. But having multiple body parts at level 3 at the same time might make your whole body feel like it's at level 6 or more.
I take heart that he's got only 56 followers in spite of making 2k+ posts.
I always liked Beau, but I love Belle - some days, her delivery is...*chef's kiss*
Stay safe, Portland!
Dear Chicago: if Mango sends Nat'l Guard to "protect" you, might I suggest you all show up with pizza or hot dogs to offer the troops? And maybe hand out cards with the G.I. Rights Hotline number and a reminder that they are not required to follow illegal orders.
Sincerely, your downstate neighbor
The Republicans seem to think there will be midterm elections, or else they wouldn't be trying to redistrict TX mid-decade. But let's face it, as badly gerrymandered as most states are, elections haven't truly been fair for decades. But that just makes voting that much more important.
Furthest I've been:
N: Anoka MN
E: Coimbra PT
S: Fort Lauderdale FL
W: Oceanside CA
But hoping to change some of those in the next year.
I'm nearly sure this won't happen, but I'd laugh my ass off if Texass went through with their gerrymander and Dems managed to not only hold the same number but actually pick up seats in the state because of how pissed people are about the Epstein files and grocery prices.
You're certainly more qualified than at least half the people that are likely being considered for the job right now!
Oh, I highly doubt it's going to die. The attention on it may ebb and flow a bit, but it won't die. There'll be plenty of coverage on it between now and midterms, as more little details leak. And 50 years from now, there's still going to be conspiracy theories popping up now and then.
Could be, it was a few years after the Globe closed, so he was likely at the Post by then. I didn't read the Post much back then (or anytime tbh) and didn't give a fig about what the rich and famous were getting up to, so I can neither confirm nor deny.
I was wondering that too.
The bigger one, at a con, before BSG reboot was geeenlit, we got seated in the restaurant next to very drunk Richard Hatch and 3 other Hollywood types. Lilly interjected in their conversation, he invited us to join them. They were a riot, and I suspect none of them remembered anything the next day.
Very similar, in the late 80s, very late at night in StL airport w/my bro. Spotted an exhausted Richard Lewis walking towards us, made eye contact, nodded as we passed. He stopped dead in his tracks, looked back at us as I glanced back; he looked amazed and relieved, I smiled and kept going.
