1. They are attracted to power, and hope that by holding up his, they’ll acquire some for themselves.
2. They hope to exploit his vanity for their own gain.
3. He gives voice to their own hatred.
4. They don’t think there will be a reckoning.

I got really upset about this for quite a long while until I came up with an analogy that comforts me: an anthill next to I-95. They build their structures and run their complex society with their queen and workers etc and they have zero awareness of what those big metal things rushing by are.
No one that slovenly in both grooming and intellect should be representing the United States on the world stage.
