Oh, I should probably mention that I wasn’t poached or anything— I actively sought out COPE members because I am furious at how this was (not) handled and how people like me have been ignored by party leadership

The whole reason I’m involved in local politics is I want to help root out the madness we’re run by and get some normal, pro-social people in government
No hyperbole, I have a scar on my ankle from how much I canvassed during the by-election, yet the party ignores me/can’t take basic accountability for their mistakes. This was a very fixable problem but now via their silence they’ve blown it up so that I fundamentally cannot trust them anymore!
All it required was a public “oops our bad” and a re-invitation to the table. But if they’re unable to do even that for a scandal of this size, how can we possibly trust them to be accountable if an actual, real, big scandal happens?
The thing that extra pisses me off about the OneCity people’s primary thing is that like, it was bad but it was *not* an unsalvageable situation.
Also— fix your comms so your internal frustration with other parties doesn’t become publicly noticeable passive aggressiveness. It’s unprofessional and looks bad to the public in addition to sabotaging coalition building
I’m of the belief there’s no time to waste and whoever ends up the progressive candidate needs to start campaigning as soon as possible— but 1-2 weeks for a tri-party membership drive would not have killed us. Take responsibility for this terrible, undemocratic, and divisive decision.
What’s most absurd is I even ultimately agree that primary voting should be restricted to members of the three parties, but the way you handled it was terrible! People need time to ramp up memberships before a vote.
Also, dozens of my progressive friends would have been rendered unable to vote in the primary had your terrible ultimatum been accepted. It was undemocratic and you should apologize publicly, not just in OneCity emails
I’d been volunteering for a year and had a pretty good grasp of goings on with the party and the sudden membership cutoff slapped *me* in the face and left me scrambling/unable to organize. Imagine how it must have been received by the other parties
I understand the discussions with the other parties have been frustrating but that’s no reason to release a passive aggressive ultimatum publicly. And letting your mayoral candidate take the fall for it is wretched both morally and politically— what is Cara Ng doing??
