Walking to school was normal when I was at school.
The benefits to children's health, well-being, independence + community connections are immense.

Nobody wants lots of people driving on their street and
Nobody wants people speeding on their street.
Yet we continue to prioritize the quick movement of cars.

We have the fewest national holidays in Europe and some of the longest working hours. It's been 100 years since we won a two-day weekend, it's about time we were on a #fourdayweek! Imagine if every weekend was three days π ... what would you do?

Walking to school is already a common practice in many European cities. BUT, numbers could be higher if routes to school were safer for children.

What can we do to promote increased walking and wheeling to school and take the traffic off our roads and away from our schools and vulnerable children?

π¨ No pavement parking or parking on double yellow lines - especially around schools - what is wrong with people?!
π¨ Slower cars
π¨ Fewer cars
π¨ Smaller and less deadly cars - you are 8x more likely to kill someone in an SUV, and far less likely to see a child in front of you.
It's Beep Beep Day a road safety campaign by Brake to increase young children's awareness of road dangers and how to keep themselves safe.
π¨ But I think we need a shift from putting the responsibility onto young people and pedestrians and start making our streets safer.
