“If Americans increased their protein intake by just 25%…it would require about 100 million acres of additional ag land each year — an area larger than Michigan, Ohio & Pennsylvania combined — & increase annual emissions by 100s of millions of tons of CO2e, according to @worldresources.bsky.social.”
There’s no sugar-coating the fact that the challenge ahead is immense, and the scale of change required is unprecedented. But just because something is unprecedented doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
The solutions exist. We know what to do. We just need to act with the urgency this moment demands.

Cool season - as defined by sub-70 degree AMs - is shrinking in the Tampa Bay Area. We now have ~2 months less of AMs below 70F than we did decades ago! Due both to greenhouse warming and, in cities, urban heat island. That's today's Berardelli Bonus. Tks @climatecentral.org for the GFX help!

I LOVE the Rurouni Kenshin movies (and anime!). Happy to meet another fan.
Should we power airplanes with food crops?
Check out our new video, part of @worldresources.bsky.social’s Stories to Watch 2025 series, where I break down how crop-based biofuels are on the front line of the discussion about alternative aviation fuels and what gets to count as “sustainable.”
Growing food crops under solar panels is called Agrivoltaics. Lots of crops benefit from growing underneath them. I know in Maine they were piloting wild blueberries, and in Massachusetts cranberries. You can also graze animals like sheep or if you mount them high cows (not goats - they climb)
Facts matter.
