This weekโs #ShowMeYourKnits : Whatโs on your needles ๐งถ Iโm working on a Musselburgh hat while traveling. Still plugging away on the Menton 2 pullover for my son. At the swatching stage for my Roost pullover for myself for the Where We Knit KAL.

It is a very hard colour to photograph! And oh so lovely ๐ I told him it will likely be ready once the weather is super coldโฆhereโs hoping I stay on track!

Enjoy!! I found that I eventually got the hang of the repetitive bits and didnโt have to constantly look at the chart. Also, learning yo knit cables without a cable needle has been a huge timesaver!

When I heard about the Where We Knit KAL (aka knit-a-long) I was intrigued. Most of the time when I hear about KALs, I am knee deep in an existing project or have too many projects already lined up. This time though, the theme of the KAL grabbed my attention and lined up perfectly with projects that I wanted to knit.
.
The theme of the KAL is to knit a project inspired by where you live. I think I live in a pretty inspiring place. Prince Edward Island is a place with big, beautiful skies, rich red soil, water views, capes, sandy beaches, winding river ways, and a rolling patchwork of farmland.
.
I have three projects that I feel would be great for this KAL. I shared them in my last post. The first is the Roost Pullover by Amy Christoffers @savoryknitting. I first came across this pattern in a beautifully written post by @thehealthyknitter. Sheโd knit three versions of this sweater in colour schemes based upon three trips sheโd taken to Shetland. One really spoke to me. She called it her โwater and weedsโ version. She was kind enough to share the specific Jamiesonโs colours that she used. These colours felt very close to my inpiration photos. So I knit a swatch to see if I was close (had to replace one colour I didnโt have). The only thing I felt was really missing from my first swatch was a colour to represent the rich red soil of PEI. So I swapped out the brown and replaced it with a reddish brown.
.
And voila, I have a colour scheme inspired by where I live. Itโs a PEI soil and shoreline inspired colour scheme.
.
First photo is my final swatch. Swipe to see individual yarn colours, an inspiration photo, and the swatch knit up in @thehealthyknitterโs โwater and weedsโ colour scheme.
The KAL runs from 1 Nov - 31 Jan.
For the Jamiesonโs Spindrift lovers out there, my colour scheme is as follows:
MC: Stonewash
CC1: Dewdrop
CC2: Eucalyptus
CC3: Yellow Ochre
CC4: Paprika
CC5: Sand
A view of the West River, PEI.
The first swatch that I knit. This is the @thehealthyknitterโs โwater and weedsโ colour scheme (though I did have to substitute the colourway Sand for her Ivory since I couldnโt find Ivory anywhere).
I wanted to share about an interesting KAL Iโm participating in. Itโs being hosted on IG. Itโs called the Where We Knit KAL. The idea is to knit something inspired by where you live ๐งถ Iโve chosen the Roost Pullover by Amy Christoffers and Jamiesonโs Spindrift yarn. Details in alt text. #knitsky

My progress so far on the Menton 2 pullover for my son. The yarn is a lovely heathered green and it is so hard to photograph! Iโve gotten the hang of the cable pattern and doing the cables without a cable needle, so the second sleeve is going in faster.
Yarn is Gathering Yarnโs Haynes Creek Heathers in colourway Cedar.
A little closer view of the cables ๐ I used the tubular cast on for the cuffs and it turned out so lovely! I think Iโd only ever used it on fingerless mitts before.

This weekโs #ShowMeYourKnits prompt: CABLES. I used to only knit cable knit projects. Then I found stranded colourwork ๐ But I still dabble in cable knits here and there. Iโve gotten somewhat ambitious (and maybe crazy) and am knitting a pullover for my son (that he had better wear!).

I totally agree ๐ Funny how 15 years passed between knitting the blanket then almost immediately felting it in the dryer and now having beautiful mittens ๐

I hung onto the felted blanket allllll these years because it was still so lovely ๐ฅบ My MIL has become the queen of making felted mittens out of wool sweaters ๐ Nice that the blanket is now getting used, just in a different way ๐

My felted wool blanket from 2009 was sewn into mitts for me by my mother-in-law in 2024. I knit it while on bedrest while expecting my second child. It didnโt survive our sleep deprivation after he was born. It was felted in the dryer. The only photographic proof of its existence is from the hospital right after he was born ๐
