I was trapped under a cat the other day and randomly grabbed Providence from a nearby shelf. Wanted to stay there and read the whole thing because I immediately remembered how amazingly compelling it is. But had to stop because it’s also legitimately the most terrifying comic ever.

Step 26 in my #ecmodyssey is a step back to ECM 1018/19 (although my US OG lists it as 2-1018). Going back because I just picked up a copy of this. Unlike most early free-jazz-adjacent ECMs, this is far from rare, so I’d passed on it before.

Apparently, when Celtic Frost came up with their band name, Tom asked his mum what she thought of it and she said it sounded like an aftershave.

Think they had nicknames for a bunch of people, but the only other one I remember was Paul McCartney, who they called Fab Macca Thumbs Aloft. Maybe @randomsmashhits.bsky.social could tell you what they called each member of Duran Duran or whatnot.

In the 80s, the legendary British pop magazine Smash Hits would habitually refer to him as Fat Bob Smith.
