The Labour govt made a bold commitment to halve the difference in life expectancy between regions.

As @healthfoundation.bsky.social shows - this is easier to say than do and as yet there is no credible plan to deliver this.

Never heard of an instance like this of a charity CEO getting a Β£1.74m bonus. Part of a strange wider story I’ve never heard about of the sale of City & Guilds to a commercial company in Cyprus. The sale is now subject to a Charity Commission inquiry

On this day in 1989, Princess Diana visited the Mildmay Hospital. It was a key moment in changing public attitudes to HIV.

Together, we must continue our work to end HIV stigma forever. You can donate now to support our work.

Slavery and forced labor have become less common over the last 250 years.

Line chart of the number of countries that had not yet abolished large-scale forced labor.

In 1789, 165 of the 174 countries covered had not yet abolished large-scale forced labor. In 2024, it was 9 countries.

Annotations on important cases, such as China, the Soviet Union, and the United States, say more about the history of slavery and forced labor.

✍️ New article: Tracking historical progress against slavery and forced labor: a long-run data view

For much of history, forced labor was widespread and brutal. Tens of millions of people were made to work under the threat of violence or punishment. The situation today is very different.

What would it take for the government to fulfil its promise to halve the gap in healthy life expectancy across the country?

TLDR: improving health care won’t be enough on its own, govt urgently needs to reduce deprivation.

Interesting letter from Social Security Advisory Committee to DWP Minister about plans for the new 'Right to Try' work for disabled people.

They don't think plans so far will deliver intent of reducing claimants' fear of being reassessed & barrier to trying to get work. 1/3 t.co/wvsEuCcUp0
