I know the one. Checked it the other day to see if I could report it as under review yet.

β€˜The process of writing forces the writer to be present’ Writing is hard and uncomfortable, but the craft of turning thoughts into words should not be lost to the frictionless ease of generative AI, write Jackie Webb and Christina Birnbaum

We wanted to share this thoughtful post by @jackiewebb.bsky.social & @christinabirnbaum.bsky.social on writing with intention.

The U.S.'s decision to withdraw from global climate and environmental organizations and treaties will have ramifications far beyond the current administration.

Sorry to hear Teresa. You are such a brilliant ECR. The path is brutal at times but I'm sure you'll get there!

Proud to have published this piece with @christinabirnbaum.bsky.social for THE Campus.

Check out the article to hear our two cents on why pure writing is just too important to dismiss in this wild west AI landscape in higher education.

Hydrologic Variability Drives Differential Methane Dynamics in Agricultural Reservoirs of the Northern Great Plains Increased spring runoff in a wet year resulted in 65% deeper water columns compared to a dry year This deeper water column caused increased anoxia and CH4 concentrations in deepwater areas of agr...

New publication in JGR: Biogeosciences on deep vs surface water CH4 dynamics in dugouts lead by amazing PhD student, Ryan Rimas!

We found that a wetter year caused more CH4 to accumulate in the hypolimnion, but this did not result in a significant change in surface water CH4.

New perspective piece on ditch greenhouse gas research I had the pleasure to collaborate on. Key research priorities are provided.

Not surprisingly, many studies neglect to include N2O. There is still much work to be done in this space and I'm looking forward to the next era of ditch research!

Pleased to say this paper has been accepted and coming soon to @iopp-environment.bsky.social. Led by @tksilver.bsky.social and with an all-star cast of supporting authors. A lovely way to end the year. Merry Ditchmas all!

Overall, I’m feeling very celebrated - When outcomes were announced two weeks ago, I came home to a wonderful show of celebration by little family πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦β€πŸ‘¦ . And thank you to all those that have reached out, near and far. Feeling very grateful after a big year. More to come. 3/3

This work builds on from years of targeted research, new findings, collaborations, and challenges navigating the pathway of a first-in-family, researcher and mother in STEM. My interest in aquatic research started when I was quite young and it’s been a challenging journey to stay in academia. 2/3

First Australian rainforests, now Africa's. Seems like a sad common theme and tipping point is happening across the world.

Experimental evidence of the effects of large language models versus web search on depth of learning Abstract. The effects of using large language models (LLMs) versus traditional web search on depth of learning are explored. A theory is proposed that when

When people learn with ChatGPT instead of following their own searches, they end up knowing less, caring less, and producing worse advice, even when the facts are the same.

Spent my week sampling weirs and rivers in regional SE Queensland with my MSCN student. It was hot work, but some absolutely beautiful and truely Australian waterways.

It's been a while since I've worked in flowing waters!

The same student also captured an intriguing metallic layer that formed on one of the acidified ponds just one week into the experiment. I suspect this was organic oils from the decomposition of organic matter as supported by the low DO reading at the time. How cool is that?!

πŸ’  Prolonged deoxygenation occurs within days following acidification
πŸ’  Phosphate is mobilized, which occurs more gradually over the course of the experiment (4 weeks)
Some of these results are shown here in a snapshot from one student's poster presentation.
