March Moth one of seven - my highest garden count
Oak Nycteoline
Pale Pinion first since 2023 and only my 17th garden record in 24 years
Probably my highest March count in VC20 since 2020 with 77:10 macro & 84:14 incl. micros. Highlight Pale Pinion, first since 2023 & only my 17th record in 24 years. Nearly missed the Oak Nycteoline amongst the Small Quaker. Also 7 March Moth my highest garden count. #teammoth
Monday now here!
Happy Sunday to those in the UK. @thattallbloke.bsky.social - I hope you like the engine and driver's view β KaikΕura β Christchurch Addington
They don't do pancakes in the Southern Hemisphere but I did tick off Kalgoorlie β
Should have added it's supposed to have the longest platform in the Southern Hemisphere but I'm not saying that as a fact???
I spy snow! I can tick off Kalgoorlie β It's a bit warmer in Western Australia but I'm still following your latest adventure!
My January moth stats for my VC20 garden, were as follows 46 moths of 15 moth species. Breakdown 38:10 macro and 8:5 micro. Nights trapped 30, 18 of these were blank. For info using a 25w twin actinic Skinner #teammoth
That's scary!
Chestnut
Early Moth
Three more moths than I was expecting in VC20 last night with 3:3!!! Spring Usher, Chestnut & Early Moth. Rained pretty much all day and all night! The Spring Usher is currently hiding in a bedroom but the other two I managed to photo with the macro lens for a change (just)! #teammoth

No I meant it was hard to decide, not agree it was Dark!!! Although I did enter mine from last week as Dark despite the photo suggesting it was a Chestnut!! In the flesh it had the right look!!!
I think they get harder every year! When you've recorded a few of each, each year it doesn't matter the odd one wrong but it's at the beginning of the year when it does matter or in the case last night at an invited location!
I would agree, especially after last week's attempt at deciding what mine was!
Google lens came up with a different suggestion every time I tried - all wrong! I think it is European possibly a navigable or semi navigable French river system - which doesnt appear to be tidal?
I doubled the singleton with the addition of a Chestnut 2:2 in VC20
Happy birthday
Yes
I have a moth by my trap in VC20. Pale Brindled Beauty! Temperature down to 7c and drizzling a bit. I think it's going to be the only moth though, let's wait and see? #teammoth

Starting the weekend as we mean to go on: with more positive nature news!
Butterflies are booming in Hertfordshire thanks to the efforts of @stalbanscouncil.bsky.social, @bc-hertsmiddx.bsky.social and several other organisations.

Final return from VC20 was 6:6 with the addition of a Chestnut to last nights finds and the other chestnut I've put down as Dark. Temperature dropped to -1.6c this morning but was about 3.5c at midnight!
It stopped raining and a few more moths came out to play. 2 more x NFY in a Satellite & Mottled Umber. Plus a 'chestnut' & PBB
Just been up my soggy VC20 garden and a blank has been avoided with a......LBAM, the excitement was overwhelming! I thought it had stopped raining - wrong βΉοΈ #teammoth
I do like seeing the habitat photos as well!
I'm really not sure on this one
Dark or ordinary Chestnut - same moth as next picture
Dark or ordinary Chestnut - same moth as previous picture
Pale Brindled Beauty
Early Moth
5:5 or 5:4 in VC20 depending on other opinions. Deffo Early Moth, Pale Brindled Beauty, Winter Moth, Dark Chestnut but what about this one? Is it Dark or a standard Chestnut-thoughts please, some angles its Dark-then it turns into a Chestnut; it was a bit frisky & decided to go for a walk! #teammoth
And a probable Dark or a dark Chestnut
Finally a moth!! Winter Moth by the trap. A moth in 2025 I had to wait until November to record one with a similar period of blank nights after the new year #teammoth
Nothing in VC 20 apart some small flies
Mine is on but I'm not bothering to check. Rain plus wind doesn't bode well
