The fact that I jumped from CS to a PhD in Sociology and went down this pretty different path didn't phase him. He was himself inclined to think across disciplines.

It was an absolute delight 20 years later to come back to give an academic talk at Cornell and reintroduce myself. Professors advise tons of undegrads and a long career means you probably can't remember many of them. Still he seemed overjoyed to hear his role in my career path.
Joe was my advisor when I was an undergrad CS major. He asked if I was thinking about grad school (didn't really know what that meant) and I said yes. So he said, "better get involved in research." I did and it led me into an entire career path I knew nothing about. Advising undergrads changes lives
Trayvon Martin should be in his thirties. He should be getting somewhere in his career, finding his art, meeting a partner, finally knowing himself really well.
He deserved all those things. He deserved protection.
No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientistβbecause the person felt she did didnβt deserve the recognition.
Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
A smart person made all the Epstein emails searchable here if you want to consult the primary source: jmail.world
Summers has resigned from Harvard, GOOD ... we know a lot more about what powerful men like him say about women behind closed doors "how Epstein's influence influence shaped the exclusion of women in STEM": 19thnews.org/2026/02/epst...
I am a cybersecurity professional who gets consulted on travel policy and my professional opinion is that travel to the US is not currently worth the risk for most non-US persons
If youβre in the planning stages of a conference intended to take place in the USβ¦move it. Donβt do it.
Imagine your job consisting of the angriest people you've ever seen in your entire life yelling at you 24/7 and throwing bottles of piss in your car while you battle the subzero elements they don't even bat an eyelash about.
Imagine the toll that takes on your psyche. May they never find peace.
I keep hearing from educated, informed people that they have no idea how bad things are in Minneapolis.
This is because too many people get their political news from the New York Times. That is a mistake! Unless they like Trump and want him to rule us like a king. Drop NYT Politics.
look by brutal government tyranny the right meant student loan forgiveness or subsidies for health insurance or helping American companies produce electric & renewable technologies, not mere jackbooted thugs executing mothers in the street for caring too much about brown neighbors
I was told over and over by Republicans that the entire point of 2A was for Americans to defend themselves against brutal government tyranny. Thatβs what we have! And by the grace of an amazing populace they havenβt asserted that right.
The people of Minneapolis have shown the patience of Jesus to remain peaceful in the face of unconscionable illegal brutality
Ciji Graham, a Black woman wearing glasses, holds an infant boy wearing a black hoodie.
1/ Ciji Graham was the mother of 2-year-old SJ, a sister to 9 younger siblings, a beloved friend.
She's also the 7th case weβve found of a pregnant woman in a state restricting abortion who died after being unable to access standard care.
This is her story.
"This long ago stopped being a campaign of organized immigration enforcement. Instead, it's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of Minnesota by our own federal government."
President Roosevelt signing the Social Security Act into law on August 14, 1935, with Perkins among those witnessing the signing (third from right) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/28/Signing_Of_The_Social_Security_Act.jpg
1/ I recently wrote about Frances PerkinsβFDRβs Labor Secretary and first woman cabinet member. She is best known as the architect of the New Deal but she had a lesser-known achievement:
She dismantled her eraβs version of ICE.π§΅
Those damn women are acting like they're citizens in a democracy.
I was once pulled over driving to work. I hadnβt done anything. But this cop pulled me over and was, I cannot stress enough, FURIOUS. Shouting at me to not grab my phone, to not even LOOK at it, to look at HIM.
He just needed to yell and seethe at a woman.

I canβt emphasize enough how shocked my out of state friends and family are when I tell them what has happened in Minneapolis since Renee Goodβs murder.
Without reliable media, most not-chronically-online people are completely in the dark. If you want to help Minnesota, tell people what you know.
White supremacist talking points.
No dog whistles.
We are far past the stage of permissiveness with white-supremacist violence inside DHS. We are witnessing ICE transition into a death squad.
This cannot be reformed. The only question is who will fight to abolish it, and who will accommodate it instead.
AOC: I want everybody to understand that the cuts to your health care are whatβs paying for this. You get screwed over to pay a bunch of thugs in the street that are shooting mothers in the face.
He spits out with contempt: "Women are the kind of people, people come out of" and it takes no talent to do that. Evangelical pastors that want women's right to vote to be reversed. Pete Hegseth retweeted this sentiment. edition.cnn.com/2025/08/08/u...
The message from the White House this morning is that, once again, it falls on ordinary American citizens to remain calm and professional when dealing with the heavily armed agents of the government because they are very emotional and might fly off into a murderous rage at the slightest insult.
They keep saying this βdidnβt you learn your lesson?β bit like murdering Renee Good was a flex and weβre all supposed to bow to their dominance.
TRUMP 2026: SHUT UP OR WEβLL KILL YOU
"It wasn't murder, and if you say it was murder we will kill you, which again will not be murder."
New from me: Let's talk about Minnesota, Trump's occupation of American cities, and how we need to rethink some things. www.altrightdelete.news/p/in-cold-bl...
It's worth your time to call Hilton to cancel your account with them. 1-800-446-6677. Here's why:
They asked me if it was because of the ICE thing. I said it was. Then they suggested I wait a couple days to see if they were going to change course.
The pressure is getting to them. Let's keep it up.
