Not, incidentally, do we know the conversations the professor may have had with the landowner.
It is, I think, unwise to set up such inter-disciplinary conflicts.
The system we have is half-good - unless we can set up something better we need to make it work.
As we both know, this isnโt an archaeological research project. And I donโt think either of us know the terms of the professorโs agreement with the landowner.
But regardless of that, objects in the ground belong to the owner of that ground, until that law is changed.
Remember, the finder doesnโt own these staters and has no legal control over what happens to them.

Hereโs a report on lice found on a Roman comb historicengland.org.uk/research/res... but the gaps look much smaller than the early medieval combs Iโve seen.
I keep talking about bone, but antler was much stronger, and therefore probably better to work with once you got a technique.
