I adore this poem. I spent quite some time traveling and living outside cities and when I came back to inhabit one again, I was overwhelmed by the culture of animals on leads. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. It is never just a person (human) out walking a pet. They are utterly entangled.

Thinking back to 2024, when I visited the Isle of Eriskay for the second time. I was having a cup of tea in the front garden when this little family band of ponies came up the drive to greet me. I knew the older ones from observing them the previous year. This time, they brought the kids to meet me.

The Helm of Awe! Are you in Iceland? How wonderful!! I was there at this time two years ago. Remarkable. I love the social history as much as the geologic, the flora and the fauna.
