Anti-immigration demonstration in the Netherlands escalates. This is exactly what happens when far-right ideas are tolerated and normalised over an extended period of time. The far right gains confidence and grows, both at the ballot box and in the streets.

English: far-right ‘protesters’ shout “where is antifa now” in the Hague at a supposed ‘anti-immigration’ rally. Earlier this week, Dutch MPs voted in favor of a motion to treat Antifa as a terrorist organization.
In all 3 countries, state-centrism is key. Yet, 🇺🇦 saw a void of state capacity due to the invasion. The state had to rely on its citizens. The other two countries use their state capacities in peace time, which are encompassing enough to set up resilience strategies as a preventive resource
It is mostly the totally different circumstances under which resilience was introduced. In Ukraine, clearly externally enforced (as a bottom-up ad hoc self-defence). In Poland (&Germany) as a planned strategy to include society into deterrence through resilience.

A couple of days ago, Maciej Stępka, Agata Mazurkiewicz and I published our edited volume on emerging forms of resilience in Germany, Poland and Ukraine.
We demonstrate how resilience ermerges differently in these countries as a far more state-centric concept.
It was a pleasure to have had @charlygehrke.bsky.social in Tübingen last week. She presented her great research on charismatic mega fauna (and showed some really cute animals). Thanks again for coming and for all the equally interesting and pleasant discussions!
