Gemini said The cover of a February 2026 workshop report titled "Monitoring Environmental Impacts of mCDR Field Tests" from the German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) research mission, CDRmare. The top half features the mission's logo—a stylized blue and teal wave design—and text detailing the focus on "Marine carbon sinks in decarbonisation pathways." The center is dominated by a colorful, stylized cross-section illustration of a coastal environment demonstrating various marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR) technologies. This includes a ship dispersing minerals into the ocean surface, pipelines extending into deep seafloor rock formations, coastal mangrove restoration, and industrial facilities with direct air capture fans. Small figures of people stand on the shoreline near a coastal village, observing the integrated land-and-sea systems. The bottom footer displays logos of various German federal and state ministries providing funding, including the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space and the states of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, and Schleswig-Holstein. 🌊
A workshop report highlights challenges in measuring the environmental impacts of marine CO₂ removal (mCDR) field trials, stressing the need for reliable monitoring systems and international standards for responsible mCDR experiments.

A poster hanging in a wooden frame. It has information about the Phycologica exhibition and the artists, Studio Blue Green.
A blackboard with messages written in colourful chalk. The messages are people's reactions to the Phycologica exhibition.
Phycologica allowed for visitors to reflect on humans’ entangled relationship with the unseen world, & hoped to inspire environmental stewardship.
The entrance to an art gallery. On either side of the doors are folding signs with the name of the gallery on them. The name is "centrespace gallery". They also contain flyers for the exhibition taking place. The name of the exhibition is "Phycologica". The building is made of brick and on the brick on both sides of the doors there is graffiti. Above the left side of the door is a rectangular banner that reads "GALLERY CENTRESPACE".
A microscopic image of bioluminescent algae.
A flyer with the name of an exhibition. It reads: Phycologica Encountering algal luminescence
In October, Studio Blue Green exhibited Phycologica, a bioluminescent algae interactive experience. Visitors to Centrespace Gallery in Bristol exchanged their breath with living algae, leading to a transmission of light, sound and wonder.
As we prepare for our arts event in June (more on that in the coming weeks), today we're highlighting the work of CO2RE Artists Studio Blue Green. 🧵 #SciArt

The project is developing a material that, once carbonised, can directly capture CO2 & store it permanently as a stable carbonate. CalyChar is led by Dr Humbul Suleman & is a collaboration between @teessideuni.bsky.social & @edinburgh-uni.bsky.social.
CalyChar, a project that received funding from CO2RE's 3rd Pathfinders call, recently won the University Research Reader's Choice Award at Electronics Weekly's 2025 #ElektraAwards.
@ffilmschool.bsky.social, one of the arts projects supported by CO2RE, recently held a residential week for participants at Bwlch Corog in the Dyfi area of Wales. Read more about what they're creating & their "anti-extractivist" approach to filmmaking on our website:

A nice aerial view of our Whim Bog site for #WorldWetlandsDay!
At this site in the Scottish Borders, we study the effects of different levels and combinations of elevated nitrogen on the peatland bog vegetation and on ecosystem services such as carbon storage and greenhouse gas emissions.
Today is #WorldWetlandsDay! Wetlands are vital ecosystems & many around the world are under threat. This includes peatlands in the UK. The GGR-Peat Demonstrator project is researching how to restore & enhance the carbon-sink potential of UK peatlands. Learn more here:
