Starting a new job today (just one day a week) and realising I’ve forgotten how to have a job that you can’t do in your pyjamas 😬

Love that Amazon has grouped me with two TV stars for an offer at the moment 😁. (Harriet from The Traitors is a brilliant writer, by the way - I haven’t read Louise Minchin’s book though so can’t comment!)

The paperback of My Darling Boy is also on offer by itself at Β£3 at the moment

Very thankful for PLR payments in these times when being a self-employed writer can feel precarious! Over 12,000 people borrowed my books from libraries last year, and authors get a small payment for each loan. Thank you librarians and readers!

Enjoyed writing about this much-debated topic! (And there was a lot more I could have said!) Prologues, yes or no? Interested in your thoughts… πŸ‘€

Pleased to have another short article published by Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook, this time on the contentious subject of novel prologues!

Unsolicited writing advice, no.326:
Your narrative voice is a camera. Distant third person is remote, viewing from a distance. Close third person comes right up to the characters, sometimes even guessing their thoughts. First is a POV shot, watching through the eyes (and mind) of the character.

It’s tough in the writing industry at the moment but I’ve been so inspired talking to other writers who are diversifying and working their socks off to be able to keep doing it. Channeling that energy into 2026!

E-books are reading.
Comics are reading.
Genre is reading.
Fanfic is reading.
Text-based games are reading.
Audiobooks are reading.
Braille books are reading.
Non-fiction is reading.
Picture books are reading.
There is no single way to read, nor is any reading style more worthy than another.

We're calling for submissions to the Black Archive from disabled authors and authors of colour, who we know have been underrepresented in the range.

Please spread this as widely as you can, as we want it to reach as many eligible authors as possible. Thank you.

Sometimes I’ll find a sentence in my MS that’s been there since the very earliest draft & realise it doesn’t really belong in the book anymore but I’ve just stopped noticing it. Kind of like an old piece of wallpaper when the rest of the house has been redecorated

Sign the Petition Allow transgender women and girls back into GirlGuiding UK

As someone whose children were at Girl Guides Scotland, it impressed me that they were so open and welcoming.

To see this change now, because of *one* parent (presumably backed by a bitter GC terf billionaire) is genuinely upsetting.

Just discovered something dangerous.

You can have store-baked pastries as your Sainsbury’s meal deal snack option.

As the SNACK.

This means today I have had a Cajun chicken wrap and an enormous chocolate and hazelnut croissant as lunch 😬. I need to unlearn this information

Decided to delete a detail about condoms in a cupboard from my WIP as it became irrelevant. Searched β€˜condoms’ to delete all refs & now it’s in my search box permanently. Every time I bring up my chapter list or search for something else, I’m haunted by condoms. Opened a different doc & same 🀣
