A loud call to all the #women in #science making history who might feel hesitant to take up space for a million different reasonsβ do it! open.substack.com/pub/chantelp...
@chantelpratphd.bsky.social and I found a welcome moment of joy in recording this episode of Brains for Dinner, where we got to geek out about the neuroscience of dreams. Hope you all can enjoy it too: substack.com/@chantelprat...

Sharing some thoughts about shaping change in the new year. #2026 #brain #neuroscience #learning #kindness #change
Woman wearing a knitted hat shaped like a brain
After our last episode of Brains for Dinner, it occurs to me that transcendental meditation (TM) is really designed for people like me who think verbally. Those who think in pictures like @andreastocco.com are free to repeat a mantra with thoughts racing in the visual domain! Got my thinking cap on!
I donβt like to play favorites but this was probably my favorite episode of B4D so far. Do you talk to yourself when you think? Or are your thoughts more like inner PowerPoints? What difference does it make (and other thoughts that keep me up at night!)
If you want to take a stab at Stocco in Love Iβll be happy to play Mercutio π€£π€£π€£ π
Iβm excited to share that Iβve been selected for the first Research Impact Advocates cohort at UW. The faculty chosen for this program get training in science communication, which Iβve never had! Itβs probably not a big deal but it feels like one to this first gen small town girl with big ideas.
Thanks π
I just finished the first full draft of my new book about how to partner with your brain to shape learning and growth! It feels SO GOOD! I canβt wait to share it with everyone π€π§
A little weekend listen perhaps?
This resonates. T minus 60 days βtil my deadline π€

I asked #ChatGPT to create a visual of the Yerkes-Dodson law which it correctly described verbally as βthe classic inverted U-shaped curveβ then drew this. π€

#language is a code for thinking and communicating, but is computer #code also a language? In this weekβs episode of Brains for Dinner @andreastocco.com and I geek out on symbolic cognition, skill learning, and #Shakespeare to name a few. Is Python a language and if so are #bilinguals better?
Calling all scientists, lovers or supporters of science, or folks just trying to make changes in their lives and wondering why they wonβt stick. Do you have 5 minutes to help inform my second bookβfocused on how to partner with your brain to shape change?

Dear friends and Bluesky π§ geeks: it's the weekend, and I want to share that @chantelpratphd.bsky.social and I recorded our second episode of Brains for Dinner. This one is about dance, language, and basal ganglia, and the burning question: why don't ducks dance? open.substack.com/pub/chantelp...

Whatβs in it for you? Laughs, learning, and possibly even inspiration for great date questions! I hope youβll join me and my favorite neuroscientist @andreastocco.com for dinner!
Honestly itβs way more exciting to be surprised like this π
Exciting!!!! My first European translation ππ»π§
What the heck! I am still waiting for my copiesβ¦. This is super exciting though!
Our malleable brain enables us to encode learning and experience in a way that is much more powerful than simply data storage.
@chantelpratphd.bsky.social explores this fascinating, complex superpower:

25 years and also just a blink.
Canβt remember the last time I saw a movie that blew my mind like this one did.
So well said I couldnβt agree more. I canβt remember the last time a movie made me think and feel so much. And Iβm sensitive to the βtrying too hardβ vibe that can make movies feel cheesy or tacky. Instead it just felt brilliant. Full of heart and soul and complexity like a life well lived.
π₯° Thank you!!!
Just turned 50 in Borneo and did some thinking and writing about what it all means to me.
