Preprint alert! 🚨📄 Sandven et al. explore the often overlooked regionality of seawater optical properties across the central #Arctic Ocean, largely driven by presence or absence of terrestrial runoff, and how this affects 🌅☀️ light-related physical and biological 🦠🐟 processes in the upper ocean.

New paper alert! 🚨📄 Recent study in Frontiers in Marine Science argues that #Arctic sea-ice ridges provide more potential habitable space for ice-associated algae🦠 in spring than level ice. But often ridges are omitted in field studies, since they are difficult to sample. doi.org/10.3389/fmar...

The Maud is perhaps a lesser known polar ship than its counterparts the Fram and the Gjøa, that can be visited at the Fram Museum (Oslo). But Maud still made a great contribution to #Arctic #exploration and #science, and is now back on Norwegian soil.
