THE NSB (NSF Board) announced the existence and exploration of a pilot program to privatize the GRFP graduate fellowship (my wording). This includes branding opportunities for the companies sponsoring fellowships. This is short sighted and self-destructive, and threatens the mission of the NSF. 1/

Well, it's official. We just received notice that all authors on the Sixth National Climate Assessment have just been released from their roles.
The NCA is a vital, Congressionally mandated resource for our nation as we prepare for the impacts of climate change. This is a huge loss.
Document posted by National Science Foundation program director on LinkedIn says not only that grants are being terminated by DOGE but that they're being deleted from databases. Presumably to make it difficult or even impossible to undo DOGE's illegal actions.

Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has halted the awarding of previously approved proposals to ensure compliance with presidential directives following the arrival of DOGE at the science funding agency.

Literally would not exist without the kind of Federal support the current administration is slashing.
Took 15+ years of research at a federal lab (Lawrence Berkeley) to get this to a point at which private enterprise could take over and make these at scale.

There hasn't been a protest this year as large and widespread as the Women's March of early 2017, but there have been more protest events overall. And as this data shows, the margin compared to the start of Trump Term 1 appears to be growing.
Don't let anyone tell you no Americans are protesting.
