Theres a whole galaxy of heavy metal rich asteroids. So theres no danger of running out soon for the Alliance with its vast territory. But for smaller or just one-system factions the story looks different. They go farther and sometimes to dangerous places to get their share.

In the Alliance this is relagetad to automatics being kept in check by a few engineers per ship. Outside it gets more capitalist coorporate hellscape the farther its away from the big blocs. While they have their agendas they still do their best at uplifting conditions to dampen uprisings etc.

I like happy endings. But my first shortstory about Limn actually has an ambivalent ending at best. And. .. yea most of them actually. But I think Vela really deserves a happy one though.

It depends on what they extract and how much % of it is in the rock. The less % the more close and personal it gets. No need to carry tons of iron ore back when you were after Ti or Au. And how legal or close to the border/pirates/warring faction it takes place. 😅

Mining ops in space for ores take place in hardy roving mining fleets. Ships of course vary in sophistication and safety depending on wether they're Alliance or external. Alliance ones mostly look for heavy metals, while externals are not as picky.

I always wonder how it must be to live in a house in the back near that lightsource. 🤔

Yea. I scrapped Limn (the pilot) from 'Cloudgazer' and put her in her own short story. I already have 3 characters with varied complicated relations to the Alliance. Didn't need a 4th 🫠 The ships just fly themselves for any piloting matter, and sometimes Vela tries. Thats funnier anyway.
