To placate Hegseth, the Scouts are eliminating their βcitizenship in societyβ merit badge because the description contained the word βdiversity.β Hereβs the full rundown. I canβt imagine even most people het up about βDEIβ would have an actual problem with this. www.scouting.org/merit-badges...
Thus ends my reading of Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman. What a journey. πΏ
βGreat Are The Mythsβ was just weird. And what was that bit about the English being so great, that they must rule the world; what the heck? πΏ
βWho Learns My Lesson Complete?β was a lovely little morsel. Iβve had an incredibly hard month, and this reminder of wonder of all things hit just right. πΏ
An ICE agent shot and killed Ruben Ray Martinez, a US citizen and San Antonio resident, in March 2025. Then ICE and the Texas Department of Public Safety covered it up. He was 23 years old. I am calling for a full investigation into this shooting, including why there was an 8-month cover up.
The headline does not convey how completely batshit this story is. The Archive Today (archive.ph etc) admin weaponized the site's captcha to attack a blogger who wrote about them and *altered archived screenshots* as part of the attack.

Shit.

This is a pogrom
This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paulβan hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.
Chuck Schumer, the absolute gall of you to text me for a donation when you are doing the opposite of meeting the moment. Give me the names of anyone and everyone who will primary you, I'll donate to them instead.
I genuinely cannot believe the degree to which we are pissing away this generational breakthrough, even given the fuckmuppets who are involved www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

I was a day late finishing Song of Myself, so I read all of A Song For Occupations today. I really liked this one. πΏ
"All architecture is what you do to it when you look upon it;
Did you think it was in the white or gray stone? or the lines of the arches and cornices?"
Donβt I have one more day to finish Song of Myself?
Penguin Classics on the left, Library of America on the right.
Oh other things I like about this one: line numbers, and text size which is large enough to help legibility. My eyes are not great, even with prescription reading glasses. The Library of America edition from the library has rather small cramped text. πΏ
Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman, death bed edition, the modern library classics
We (my spouse) already owned this death bed edition. Still no line numbers. I intend to read that intro by William Carlos Williams eventually. πΏ
Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman, Library of America edition
This Library of America version from the library has the first and last editions, but no line numbers and the introduction was too academic for me.
Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman, 150th Anniversary Edition, Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition.
We picked up this copy from City Lights Bookstore. It has a really lovely letterpress embossed and foiled cover. I also liked the introduction by Harold Bloom. The only thing I donβt like are the deckle page edges. πΏ
