Gavin Newsom Vetoes Important HRT Stockpiling Bill For Trans Californians, Signs Other Pro-LGBTQ+ Bills
The bill would have allowed transgender people to maintain a safe supply of medication in the era of government crackdowns on care.
1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.
Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

It hurts more when your hopes are broken then it does when you had little hope to begin with.
Harris and Walz made an active choice to abandon trans Americans to court more Republicans. It's hard to blame Biden for that.

I think most people know Biden was evil. Almost nobody liked Biden as a candidate.
There was hope that Harris could have been less evil, turned things around. Most people didn't know Harris as well.
Instead she chose to focus on appeasing the center and the right over supporting key minorities.

I'm sure there are political and religious drivers too, but I think it comes back to personality type. We see abuse from authority figures like politicians across political lines, although they do tend to lean towards right wing ideologies in general.

At one point I thought the anti-ed activists we're just trying to protect themselves from exposure for abusing their children.
My thoughts have evolved. I now think it's a certain belief set and personality type (wanting total control of their children) that is just more conducive to being abusive

It's often the people who oppose educating children about abuse that are the abusers. The overlap between parents opposing school-based sex Ed and those actively abusing their children is substantial.

Once again the Nobel Peace Prize is driven more by politics than peace.
Caving in to a far right militaristic politician supporting violent intervention against her own people, opposing self-determination of Palestinians, supporting the far right agenda of Donald Trump and US imperialism.

I see lots of comparisons to Caesar and Rome or Hitler and Germany (as well as others) and I'm pretty sure this one will be different, but there are still parallels and patterns that repeat themselves.

And whatever happens will be at the expense of socially and economically disadvantaged groups. Like how does the US get out of its current crisis? Even if we survive Trump, more like him will follow now that they see how weak the Republic has become.

That and the fact that both parties have chosen to demonize certain minority groups, to prioritize short-term headlines over long term prosperity - I do not see a good way for the US out of this without political upheaval of some sort.

And it has become increasingly clear how weak the US checks and balances are.
Even if we make it through Trump 2.0 and he doesn't get re-elected / re-anointed, what is to stop the next President from abusing their power?
And the Supreme Court essentially removed what few checks remained.

It was 100% obvious in 2024 what the election in the US was about. Trump released and endorsed his playbook. It's possibly the most honest election of my lifetime. And the US chose to vote for him and elect him.

Many of the major US Eugenics organizations still exist today. Eugenics was a big field in science and politics in the early 1900s with lots of money and support.
The US funded most of the research the Nazis used to justify their agenda, which initially had many supporters among US intellectuals.

Harris and Walz both had experiences they could leverage with the trans community and instead decided they'd rather throw the election to Trump then acknowledge and support us.
I still voted for them but they threw away a bit opportunity by ignoring minor Democratic constituencies.

This is the most uplifting thing I've seen politically coming out of the US in months. The fact a mainstream Democrat with national attention would devote a whole ad to trans history is a BIG deal, especially after Harris/ Walz chose to throw us under the bus in 2024.

It pisses me off how politicians continue to use career Feds as a political football to extract concessions during the endless funding fights. It feels like Trump / Vought are holding knives to their necks and holding them hostage while demanding Democrats agree to authoritarian rule.

I am no longer with the US Federal Government. I left by choice, but a number of my colleagues were RIF'd and many others were forcibly reassigned. Many of them are currently furloughed with uncertainty about whether they will get RIFed, get back pay, etc.

I'm still doing my best to stay in touch with my old communities and supporting where I can while also protecting my family. I wish I could do more - survivor guilt is very real. I'm hoping our fears are overblown but I still believe the threat is real and keeps getting worse.

I am grateful for all the support from here and the local Trans community, especially with regards to ways out of the US

I'm hearing lots of rumors at work but I'm having trouble tracking down truth.
I hate that we learn more from media than we do from our internal sources or our management.
They're as much in the dark as we are.

I'd prefer to post about stuff I love (science) but being a Fed scientist there are restrictions.
I'd love to post about disability and neurodivergent issues but lately I've been so preoccupied with the rapid decline of the US and the safety of my family that it's hard to focus on much else.

Friends,
I'm seeing lots of new followers.
I am a career employee of the US Federal Government but not in the DC area and I learn more about what is happening from the media / social media than I get internally.
I am not myself trans but my child is and we don't feel safe in the US anymore.

Today on LinkedIn:
- someone trying to get me to train AI in my specialty (a "high priority" position)
- someone from a country typically considered adversarial to the USA trying to recruit me
I'm clearly not desperate enough yet (and still stand by my values and oaths) but I may eventually break

What is the point of making millions or billions of dollars if everyone around you is miserable and oppressed? What good does the money do when everyone is dying of cancer and you can't breath or drink because of the pollution?

I have enjoyed my career as a Federal Scientist. I especially enjoy seeing the positive impact our work has on the lives of our fellow Americans from across the political spectrum.
