Fig. 1.Conceptual illustration of retention of plasmodesmata (PDs) components paired with plasma membrane (PM) and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) trafficking mechanisms. (A) PM-associated proteins traffic to the bulk PM via the Golgi body and secretory pathway. (B) Ribosomes associated with the rough ER traffic ER-associated proteins to the bulk ER. (C) The specialized composition at PDs indicated with labels and illustrated with colour gradients: the cortical ER (green) and PDβER (navy blue), and the bulk (light blue) and specialized (purple) cell wall (CW). Magenta outlining conceptualizes the properties of PD-retained proteins clustered to the PD-specific membranes.

A travel buddy native from South America would be the perfect reminder of her roots and adventurous spirit. π±ππ @luciaborniego.bsky.social
We may be thousands of miles apart, but our shared passion for plants keeps us connected. Our chats are a mix of our amazing discoveries.
Just like Alice, her research has taken her far from home. But I know that having a little piece of South America with her would make her incredibly happy.
Our paths took a dramatic turn in 2020β a year none of us will forget. While the world shut down, she flew across the continent to embark on her biggest adventure yet, joining the Innes lab in Bloomington. Now, she's an expert in extracellular RNAs, unraveling how plants communicate with pathogens.
Hello @proteintech.bsky.social!
Alice the Alpaca would love the story of my twin sister's research journey. We grew up in a small town in Argentina, where our shared love for plants first bloomed. We were always inseparable, two budding scientists exploring the world side-by-side.

Instead of blocking ARF, Aux/IAA is sitting on ARF to lure TIR close, so that it produces cAMP in ARFs vicinity, where it, in an up till now unknow way, activates ARF.

Sharma et al Figure 1 legend (shortened): Hormones mediate root responses to water availability. (A) Under homogeneous water distribution in soil, lateral roots (LRs) develop symmetrically, resulting in a uniform root system. (B) Root tips show hydrotropism and bend towards areas with high water potential. (C) Growing root tips pause branching in air gaps (xerobranching). (D) Asymmetric SUMOylation of the auxin response factor ARF7 induces asymmetric distribution of lateral roots, leading to hydropatterning. Ethylene suppresses LR formation on the air side of the root. (E) Soil drying decreases water potential vertically, promoting steeper root growth or xerotropism by the action of Deeper Rooting 1 (DRO1). Auxin negatively regulates DRO1, triggering downward bending. Water availability is represented as a blue colour gradient.
