I was going through my historical urban fantasy and realized how different my writing is there in comparison to my current novels. Almost like someone else wrote it, and it's pretty wild. Wondering if I can even write like that again.

One of the fun things about working on a historical fantasy based in your own country when you didn't grow up there, is that research is just you having an excuse to learn more about your own history and explore touristic sites for fun.

Thank you! It's been a learning experience. I initially had chapters as a buffer, but eventually life happened and it was difficult to keep up. But I have notes of what I want to happen in each chapter then write whenever inspired, so I had random scenes to link up.

8 - Writing for the masses is actually fun, but also... it would be nice if the other novels I worked much harder on could get the same kind of love.

7 - I'm currently at 110K words with at least 7 more chapters to go with (2K+ each). This is much more than my fantasy novel reached, but it's mostly because I am not ruminating in the writing, the language or even properly editing it.

6 - When there are no guidelines or restrictions about word count, you can actually expand on the little and insignificant moments that bring the characters to life and give them more depth.

5- You start wondering if your book is actually that good or if it's nice entertainment because it's available for free.

17.02.2026 12:37 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

4 - Getting real-time comments from readers as they go through the chapters gives you a heady and unexpected feeling until it gets a little overwhelming.

17.02.2026 12:37 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

3 - It's easier to write in a slower pace when you don't have that many readers than when people start reading your book, because the comments create a sense of urgency, making you want to please them at your own expense.

17.02.2026 12:37 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

2 - You actually CAN write 2000 words in two hours because you procrastinated and the deadline is looming with readers expecting a chapter that night.

Things I learned from posting weekly on #Wattpad as opposed to writing a full novel before posting it.

1 - Improvisation is key. If I already posted that person's name is something or the chain of events went a specific way, I can't change it, I need to adapt 'yes and' it.

I've been posting my romance book under a pseudonym on #wattpad. It's been an interesting journey to finally put my writing out there (aside from querying my current novel), completely different writing style, and honestly, posting twice a week has been a challenge.

Interestingly enough, I used to exclusively write contemporary novels since I was in high school. If anything, moving to fantasy has been the great shift for me because I just couldn't write romance anymore, and my mindset was better suited for darker fantasy elements. I guess I'm healing? πŸ˜‚

I used to read a ton of dystopia back in my twenties, and now it feels so realistic to joke about it being completely far-fetched.

Definitely how dystopian authors feel right about now πŸ˜“

Going from working on fantasy books to contemporary novels has been interesting. I didn't realize how much of a relief it is to not need that much research and effort into ensuring the writing is period-appropriate and properly incorporates the magic system.

Working on a new writing project is always intimidating after you've finished an old one. Does anyone else get the urge to just go back to the old one to "fix" it some more instead?

Sending my book out to a friend and having her love it and gush over the characters was such a great feeling! It's nice to get some reassurance that someone has enjoyed your work, especially when going through such a grueling process.

Ooh I'm intrigued! I have an Ancient Egypt-inspired story of my own but it's still being written.
This sounds very interesting!

The Screaming Staircase X Psycho-Pass, but as a historical urban fantasy.

1952 Egypt reimagined in a world where personal demons inhabit objects that represent your greatest pain, survival might depend on your willingness to conquer your deepest fears.

I am at a unique point in my life.
I started my historical fantasy during NaNoWriMo in 2021.
Completed the first draft in 2022.
Went back and forth before finishing the final draft in 2025.
Now I'm at a point where I'm satisfied enough to want to query it.
It's been surreal.

What would you do if the color of your wrist tells the world if you've dealt with your trauma? What if you can't find the object your Demon has inhabited?

Pietro Moni opens a Demon Subjugation Institute because he can find any Demon without a problem. But should he?
