The eBike’s top speed capability should be irrelevant. When I lived and drove in Europe, and had exited the speed-unlimited portions of the Autobahn, I didn’t have to get out of my car and walk entering small towns - I just had to drive below the relatively low speed limit.

I think it probably derived from eBike motor control systems being digital, though you certainly could have built them using analog systems, tiny digital computers are just the norm now. “Pure mechanical” would have been more accurate for the traditional bike, but we’re all digital babies now.

Federal law classifies them as *not* motorized vehicles as long as they meet well defined limitations. This allows their use on trails, etc. though the hodgepodge of local regulations across the country complicates that. There’s been little effort to prevent buying noncompliant or modified ones.

16% of Porsches are resold within a year, compared to the national all-vehicle rate of 3%. Porsches are obviously unacceptably undesirable to keep.

The ”initiative” needs to define what permanent means. No one wants a machine with a passenger seat welded to the frame, as it defeats the other utilities the rear frame may offer.

I checked on full insurance with Markel for an eBike I’m considering, and it was about 1% of the value of the bike *per month*. No deduction for GPS tracking built-in, etc.

Owners aren’t leaving eBikes just anywhere - it’s rude uncaring riders, and they will stop when large deposits become required to rent the things, leading to them being less accessible to many. The same tragedy of the commons events are occurring with Waymos and such with doors being left open.

I checked with Markel about insurance for a new eBike, and it was rather excessive, IMO, at 1% per month of the value of the bike.

Legal definitions of eBikes do not require no throttle, but maximum speeds.

Watts are not what determines the top speed of eBikes, just how quickly they can get there or can hold it.

Thanks for focus on ALSO’s “why” of the clean-sheet engineering of the TM-B, and that the pricing is ”aggressive“ for the feature set is indeed under-appreciated. The low-CG & high-torque delivered from the center-weight position with damping & minimized unsprung mass will give excellent handling.

To follow up, backdated posts are allowed. My problem seemed to be rKeys being generated by my app instead of letting the PDS do it, since it appears to require the embedded timestamp. PDSing is fun as you learn the limitations. I keep thinking of new stuff to build in the future.

So, bsky engineer types. I’ve stood up a PDS server and gotten it to connect to bsky, but my older (4 day old) test posts don’t show but if i create new ones do. I’d like to create a good deal of info in post form up to a year old. Is there a limit on the createdAt timestamps?

Many states allow eBikes to ride on the sidewalk.

Because federal (and most states) law created a “low-speed electric-bicycle” category so they can legally be treated as traditional analog bicycles for access purposes, and called the noncompliant “motorized”. Yes, some are illegally modified to be or even newly sold noncompliant.

Laws define motorized vehicles, and eBikes by definition are not.
