I feel like this is a more universal phenomenon and likely has a name and wikipedia page. And of course the way we name things probably plays into it too. For example "Artificial Neural Networks" lends itself to be misunderstood in this way I think.

A fascinating thing you can see sometimes with (pro-AI) people, is that they see a model which was made to vaguely resemble/is inspired by a natural process, and then turn around and try to argue if it is not the other way around, that the process works just like the model.

DOGE was purely ideology driven (the idology being the white supremacist one of Elon Musk). May everyone involved in its work be named, shamed, and hopefully brought to justice.

At least some media scholar will be able to write a paper to compare reporting to other times things like that have happend, and political scientists can build some fancy model of what-if policies. I guess in a way the USA are creating job security for future academics, tbh I would rather they don't

There are also other arguments against a flat ban. "If social media is so harmful that it should be banned for kids, what makes it less harmful for adults?" is one of them that I like. Why should gramps with 80 and bad brains get to be scammed on facebook but rudy with 15 and bad brains not?

"Personalized" online advertisment and services are imo one of the causes that led to the overall permissive attitude when it comes to data collection and scraping. Doesn't help that simply collecting data is easier than it ever was and there are not many laws to it because "it's a public space"
