Cover of a small book titled 'A Short History of Worthy Down'. Someone has translated the latin Animo et Fide and added 'Courage and Faith' in biro
The nearest book to us has neither a page 34...nor any actual page numbers ๐ซ It is however a ripping read about the history of Worthy Down (which is where we are, legit) I suppose technically some might say it is a pamphlet...

Today seems a timely day to mention the humble DUKW - amphibious, ambitious, amazing. Launched in WW2, these absolute workhorses ferried men and machinery from ship to shore, deflating their tyres to gain traction in the soft intertidal areas before self-reinflating for firmer ground.

Aw Queen Vic, the very famous photo of her sat looking towards the window holding a big fan.
This is a really nice image - a black and white photo of a large floral wreath. This was given by the Army Service Corps. The ribbon at the bottom, whilst in black and white in this image, will have been the ASC colours of blue, yellow and white.
Today is the 125th anniversary of the Death of Queen Victoria. During her 63-year reign, the British Army transformed the way it supplied and supported operations across a global empire โ moving from uniformed civilians, to permanent, professional logistical corps.

Apparently it is #RubberDuckDay - who knew! The Museum was taken over by rubber ducks in 2024 in honour of the arrival of our WW2 DUKW - Crispy.

A black and white photo of an Army paymaster counting out coins on a table. It is labelled 1915. It has a caption in 'meme' font that reads 'Us trying to make December's pay last until January 45th'

An advert for a talk at the museum. The advert gives the same details as in the post (Air Despatch by Lt Col Chris Stuart on Jan 29th) and also includes the time which is 7.30 to 9pm.
Excellent upcoming talk at the museum all about *checks notes* throwing things out of planes ๐ Find out about the first 110 years of Air Despatch from Lieutenant Colonel Chris Stuart on January 29th.

A rather handsome stuffed dog in a museum display case. He is medium sized and blonde. He is a good boy and much less trouble than the staff members. Would pet if the Curator let me.
We have been inspired by @zslofficial.bsky.social to undertake a stocktake of the animals in our care.
We still have just the one ๐
Happy New Year Tiney the Dog.

A really nice oldy-style painting of a soldier with blue trousers, a red, cropped jacket, a million buttons and those fun shoulder tassle thingies, topped with a really fancy hat with a massive white feather. Proper class. He also has a sword, spurs, and shiny shoes.
Ooo #ChristmasColours is the phrase of the day ๐ And here, dressed like the little drummer boy himself (because every women with a newborn wants a child to play drums in the nursery...) is an Officer of the Royal Waggon Train. Festive and fetching.

Whatsapp from the Museum Director:
The cafe is closing early next Tuesday so that Santa can attend the Christmas party.
*Santa is the name of the nice lady who runs the cafe. I cannot tell you how long it took the staff team to remember that and understand the message.

This is actually a banging photo of a big truck lifting a crate with a crane but it is nighttime and it is dark and the whole scene is lit by red, yellow, blue and green lights from the vehicles. It looks festive and ethereal, despite the context of when it was taken.
Day 11 on the #ArchiveAdventCalendar and the theme is #DarkNights ๐
This photo was taken during Op Herrick in Afghanistan and shows the grit of logistics soldiers during operational conditions.
