Taxing cycling is just a silly idea and it should be derided, not debated irishcycle.com/2023/03/16/t...
It’s not just the complete inability to understand statistics, btw, or the frankly puerile attitude when they are explained.
It’s the fact that he does not even seem to grasp the difference between what high-visibility and reflective equipment are, and how and in what conditions each works.
This thread is worth reading to see the spectacularly, wilfully, boorish reaction from a pundit presented with reasons and data why his hot take is wrong.
The “comment is sacred, facts are free” school of punditry really has debased public discourse.
Next week will be 4 years since the Curraheen Road pedestrian and Cycle Safety scheme was approved (amended from the scheme that went for public consultation in 2021).
No works have commenced yet.

Lower limits on Cork’s streets “will take many decades” if the public does not send a clear message to Cork City Council

Thomas Gould TD has called for mediation re Farranree bike lanes
2021 "We need to give people..a chance by investing in cycle lanes.”
2022 "this is a scandal the way the northside is being treated"
2024 "We are getting fewer projects, less money and less active travel from this Government."
The Minister for U-Turns strikes again!

So people should now carry helmets and hi-viz around with them in case they decide to take a public ebike somewhere?
"Be seen" as a road safety campaign is an absurdity.
It tells potential victims of road violence to do something that depends on drivers looking in the right direction, without distractions.
"Look where you're going and slow down if unsure" makes more sense.
But enforcement beats any stupid slogan
If any policymakers or campaigners in Ireland want to discuss the evidence base for these policies I'm happy to talk
Seán Canney needs to fuck off. Then fuck off some more then fuck off again and when he thinks it's no longer possible to to fuck off anymore he should go and fuck off!
I often regret taking a journey across Cork City in the car. I never regret taking a journey across Cork City on my bicycle. #traffic
Can't argue with this....
"Kathriona Devereux: 'Every time I get on a bike, I cycle as if I'm about to be in an accident'"

Have had mine for two years now and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Zero worries about finding parking, I know exactly how long it till take me to get the kids to school and on to work regardless of the traffic, and that's before the savings

Someone stole my wife's maroon Raleigh Motus bike in Dublin City Centre this afternoon. If you see it, give me a shout
Christmas tree by bike
The gards are a big part of the problem of road-safety. And yet they're supposed to be one of the groups leading awareness campaigns. It's a sick joke.
Also, let's not forget that a number of years ago the CSO publically stated that they don't trust the stats from the gards wrt road injuries!!
🧵
A lot of what's happening is farmers extending their buildings/boundaries illegally onto the Irish Rail owned land over the years. Irish Rail need to re-assert their ownership of ALL existing lands that ARE owned by the taxpayer not these cute hoor farmers. irishcycle.com/2025/12/01/o...
Thanks! This is probably a bit more invasive on the kinsale road, but tempted to hire the edger and do it.
*Cycle lane.... Yes I am an idiot
Asking for a friend 😏 (#speirgorm)
A cycle they use has become so narrow through grass growth it's unusable.
Anything stopping them edging and removing the grass growth?
Cork City council have ignored repeated tickets they've logged
All the hi-vis in the world isn't keeping me safe from people speeding, people on their phones and people not paying attention, red light breaking while they're driving.
Do better lads
So this driver was speeding, went over to the other side of the road, killed a person, yet the judge said "Her culpability in relation to dangerous driving is on the lower side", and suspended her sentence...
... but remember, where your hi-viz and it'll be grand 🤬
What a load of victim-blaming nonsense.
No amount of high-viz clothing can protect you from drivers like this: www.rte.ie/news/2025/11...
I wear a high viz vest and insist that my children wear them if on their bikes. I am not a road safety authority. Your messaging and action need to be on the sources of road danger, not the victims of it.
You are fiddling while the road burns.
