'conversations about AI sound fundamentally different in Africa....There, debates about technocratic issues such as innovation, productivity, regulation and βsafetyβ β the anxieties of the designer and the proprietor β are inseparable from histories of extraction and epistemic violence.' 1/2

FT comments section this morning - saying what everyone else is thinking, right?
People can debate AI all they like, but surely we can all agree that anyone who owns or uses a pair of the pervert glasses that secretly record people should be ostracised immediately and totally from our society? I'm sorry but your pervert glasses prove you're a pervert! Get out of town!

Welsh cakes cooking in pan
Welsh cakes for St David's day.
I saw a show called Hiraeth at the Priddy Folk festival a few years ago and it remains one of the funniest and most moving shows I have ever seen. There were Welsh cakes!
'And we'll be hearing more from Gerald of Wales later in the programme' was not on my bingo card for this morning, but I'll take it! On @cerysmatthews.bsky.social wonderful 6 Music show...
Of course, it is unlawful.
Even the "pre-emptive" justification is half-hearted guff.
Of course, it is stupid.
Wise US politicians once realised a rules-based international order was in their interests. That is being thrown away.
And most of all, and regardless of the above, it is wrong.
Plans to make refugee a status of perpetual limbo will do nothing to stop people who need help seeking it nor make it possible for them to rebuild their lives and contribute. I call for humane and effective asylum reforms because I am true Labour, not blue Labour. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
Every now and then today I remember Matt Goodwin losing and just have a little happy moment.
Mmmm... Tim and I have our eye on the vegan afternoon tea in the regency room @ Theatre Royal Drury Lane next special celebration.
Party where key members want to return to household taxation (e.g. Danny Kruger) need to be careful about losing it over household voting. The former will lead to more of the latter.
Those pesky woke progressive sectarian Islamists, apparently.

Over the past eighteen months, the political science consensus on the nature of Labour's vote has been absolutely correct - and yet also completely ignored by pundits and strategists who continue to get it wrong.
Matt Badloser, in fact.
As the analysis starts of the Gorton and Denton result, I wanted to flag some aspects that my experience yesterday suggests are being over or under-played
(Caveats - I went to Longsight, Gorton and Denton town centres and spoke to as many people as I could, but it was mostly during the working day)
Matt Goodwin has been sent back to Substack. The Conservatives have lost their deposit. Keir Starmer has been told left wing voters are not a guarantee for Labour. Overall, British politics could do worse than follow Gorton and Denton.
What will they do instead? Probably get apocalyptically and hysterically nasty about the Greens and isolate themselves further.
If Labour has any sense at all it will stop fighting the left and dumping its climate commitments. Dump the blue brigade. Start thinking about alliances, pacts, and voting reform. Expect the next government to be a coalition; make sure they're a big party in it.
: Half of UK universities face a deficit next year. Up to 50 could close.
That is a sector in crisis. Simply blaming a tuition fee freeze and nudging fees up with inflation is not a plan. Where is the long-term strategy for higher education?
