I just realized both Portland and Seattle have mayors named Wilson and was concerned about the other one for a second

It was a fantastically written episode by every measure - as Trek, as scifi, as TV, as theater
Eddington's "Les Miserables" monologues come to mind. He really brings out the worst in Sisko.
Sounds like the Maquis, from their perspective?
βIβm speakingβ was not good
I do feel like the show thematisizes that gap a great deal, in the mentor/mentee dynamics between the characters
Yes, there were a lot of US and Israel flags among them as well
βThe forces we are up against have made peace with mass death. They are treasonous to this world and its human and non-human inhabitants.β
To move forward with focus, we must first understand this simple fact: we are up against an ideology that has given up not only on the premise and promise of liberal democracy but on the livability of our shared world β on its beauty, on its people, on our children, on other species. The forces we are up against have made peace with mass death. They are treasonous to this world and its human and non-human inhabitants.
The key paragraph from @naomiaklein.bsky.social & @astra.bsky.social's powerful piece describing the urgency of our present moment. They are right, and we better move quickly.
Lawd shut these liberals up talking about how encampments never came back after Trump's election like nobody's out here caring about Palestine anymore. Those students were brutalized by militarized police & their campuses barred them from organizing! It was Biden's doing! They're still organizing!
it's not the issue of this story, but it is a transparent example of how the "cars are freedom" narrative is a complete farce. when the state controls your movement and can immobilize you on a whim, you are not free. car dependency is an arm of fascism for the car *IS* fascism and must be abolished.
SCOTUS has been on a tear of infamy lately but this makes my blood boil like no other
Also, as the piece points out, opening the door to large-scale tampering with mailed ballots is probably a big motivation here as well
Tawny Newsome (Mariner) has a hand in the writersβ room for SFA, she gets Trek as well as anyone today
Iβd say itβs the least bad of the nutrek, and features a lot more meetings/classrooms - it is more like Lower Decks than Discovery imo
weβre all just rewatching DS9 for the eleventh time
Love to see this always get blamed on voters objecting to support for a genocide and not the politicians screaming βshut up and vote for meβ
Yeah I was totally on board for the first 2 episodes, then they took a weird detour through the Mirror Universe and picked up Mirror Georgiou which I think was supposed to be high camp but was played too straight and didn't work for me. As you said, whiplash! I did enjoy the last 2 seasons though
tbf I think Disco did get there eventually
SFA has the ensemble cast thing, which is a breath of fresh air - feels more like Lower Decks than Discovery, which I think was trying to do a TOS-style central character story that just doesnβt resonate. Trek is about teamwork and helping each other, not individual heroics!
the main reason to go after the rich is that if you donβt the entire structure of your society is predicated on the whims of people who are entirely disconnected from ordinary life
billionaires are simply too dangerous to exist, and any budgetary stuff that comes out of it is just a bonus
βLike an electrical gong bath!β The Sheffield supermarket going viral for the symphonic sound of its freezers
The GOP won despite (or because of) the base constantly tearing down all of their own politicians except Trump. The resulting lockstep conformity may not have the exact ideological outcome they all want. but thereβs something for everyone and no denying itβs effective.
then say that instead! would you vote for Liz Cheney? How about Kirsten Sinema or John Fetterman?
We canβt afford another Biden because we canβt afford another Trump
Relatedly, he failed to deliver on police reforms after George Floyd and his justice department failed to stop Trump 2
The progressive problem with Biden has little to do with the economic policies and everything to do with uncritical support of a genocide
If Stephen Miller switches parties to become a Democrat, wins the dem primary, and is the candidate vs. Trump in the next election, I will not vote for Stephen Miller.
He is awful, his policies are awful, and it doesn't matter if he'd be "better" than Trump.
This is a post about Gavin Newsom.
There was a whole DS9 plot - cringy bc it was early and Bashir was still being a creep - where a wheelchair-bound person was offered a medical βcureβ and decided not to take it
