I know that his story isn't unheard of in our incredible school. But I just wanted to share it as a reminder of the huge impact you all have, just by being you.

Have a lovely evening.

Happy Sunday - no Sunday scaries here!

He was thanked and praised for communicating this to us and it was agreed with his mum that he could stay for his lunch.

His Dad has emailed me and has said that he hasn't stopped talking about school, he is absolutely buzzing and can't wait to come back tomorrow.

He accessed the full morning in class, but at 11.30 he put his head on the desk and wouldn't/couldn't speak. He was reminded by the class teacher that his voice was important and he used his words to say that he didn't want to go home.

He started today on a slow transition from 9-11.45. As soon as he came in, the other children were so welcoming; remembering his name and saying hello to him, despite all being nervous themselves for starting a new class in a new building!

He came to two trial transition visits before Summer and the children and staff welcomed him with open hearts and, as a result, he engaged in whole class sessions, a playtime and made friends that he spoke about at home.

He was at another school and was really struggling to access the classroom, spending around 10 minutes in there at a time and still becoming distressed.

He was on a part time timetable and had over 15 days suspensions in the Summer term.

Good Evening,

I wanted to share a glimmer from today.

X is a new pupil. His mum came to us in July asking for support, after hearing about us from two ex parents that couldn't praise us enough.

People often share 'triggers' but we much prefer to share 'glimmers'!

Last week, all of our staff received this glimmer by email (not from me) and I thought it was worth sharing. It just shows how amazing our school is.

They’re mostly insta posts - used google images to find them.

Thankyou- it was over two days and I’ve given just a brief overview. We did so much more and it was more than I’ve described. Really set us up for a fab year.

Have a great year - would love to know the children’s reaction. Xx

We will re-establish routines and of the things that are important to us: Rounded and Grounded, the SDGs and the UNCRC.

And now we are ready to go. I can’t wait to feel the buzz of a school building full of excited, motivated, energised and respected learners.

INSET Part 6:

Over the next few days, we will repeat some of these reflections with our children; reminding them of the importance of relationships, of our restorative practice, of safety - they’ll make keyrings and Little Bags of Safety.

So excited to meet all of our new EYFS children tomorrow.

Hopefully they’re all tucked up, fast asleep dreaming dreams full of love and excitement and learning and adventures.

I’m off to put my confetti under my pillow.

When they start sprouting their own spiderettes, they will go home with our children to continue to spread the Barrowford love.

In my house, we have been nurturing a spider plant - today each staff team planted a spiderette or pup taken from that parent plant for every room.

Our SEMH SEND Unit is called AGAPE - the highest form of love, an unconditional, universal love that transcends and persists regardless of circumstances, going beyond the emotion to actively seeking the best for others.

We added our final bead, a pink one to represent LOVE.

That’s such a core value for us, we use love to frame our work unashamedly.

INSET Part 5:

And finally, we thought about GUNNEN: a Danish word with no direct English translation but that describes the act of genuinely wishing someone well, finding happiness in their success, granting something without envy - the opposite of being begrudging or jealous.

We also thought about gratitude - and everybody wrote and received a postcard that shared something that elicited a response of gratitude.

Every year, we ask our parents and children to share with us what they wish their teachers knew about them - our staff team had the opportunity to share with me what they wish I knew to enable me to support them better.

We took some time here to think about what we do for our children, our community and each other - and we ran out of space!

Our children deserve to take up space anywhere in the world in any company and hold their own - our curriculum and wider offer is designed with this in mind.

OLEILU, a Finnish word, means to relax and just be, encouraging us to take responsibility for our mental and emotional wellbeing and self-care.

We added blue beads to represent STICKING TOGETHER and purple beads to represent MAKING MEMORIES.

It also gave us the opportunity to think about our cultural capital curriculum, about The Equality Act, about our curriculum which is predicated on story, about the value of intergenerational learning and about active anti-racism and allyship.

This word reminded us of SONDER - the profound feeling of realising that everyone is living a life as complex as your own, despite your lack of awareness of it. That’s also the name of our Communication and Interaction SEND unit.

We added orange beads to represent BEING OURSELVES and green beads to represent BEING DIFFERENT.

For us, exceptionalism is the norm and it is celebrated and accommodated.
