#TheScriptoriumChronicle formatting kajiggery accomplished.
Arrived at pricing for different qualities of paper and have gone with standard rather than premium as the print cost was half. Will see what it looks like when the hard copy proof arrives next week.

The layout wrangling to get #TheScriptoriumChronicle ready for print continues.
Todayβs ongoing trauma is persuading the cover to be the correct size for the trim and trying to remove a font that isnβt there.
It would be easier to nail jelly* to the ceiling.

After this morning's despondency about the print preview of #TheScriptoriumChronicle being a mess, I've now got the page layout set up for the new book size, and the gutters and margins sorted.
It's now a slog to get the text and graphics back in order. Made it to February so far.

There are errors of one kind or another on every page, two fonts are unsupported and need to be changed, and there is text outside the margins.
On the plus side, there are no issues with the cover.

Feeling somewhat despondent this morning. Not because of the state of the world (which, let's face it, is dire), but because I loaded #TheScriptoriumChronicle into the print previewer and the result was a mess. Gutter and margins all out of whack, and graphics all over the place. Gonna be a long day

The cover of the soon to be released book βThe Scriptorium Chronicleβ. The title and author name are in a medieval style blackletter font (think written by a quill in black ink) and the illustration is also in a mock medieval style and features a priory, complete with a tower. The perspective is skewed and looks wrong.

Good news everyone!
Iβve finished the final tweaks to The Scriptorium Chronicle. If all goes to plan, the release date will be on April Fools Day (go figure).
At long last, a year in the life of the scribes is on its way.

A white cat with black markings stands in the gap of a partly opened patio door and looks out. The cat in question has the ability to come and go through a cat flap, but resolutely refuses to use it, preferring people to open doors instead.
Finally got a picture as proof.

Currently agonising over how best to publish "The Scriptorium Chronicle". On the verge of signing up with IngramSpark when I had second thoughts, ummed and ahhed about Draft2Digital again, and now thinking of sticking with KDP.
Due to copyright issues with fonts it will be hardcopy only, no eBooks.

The keys for my house when I bought it were held by the estate agent and I had to go and get them. Canβt remember having to okay the transfer of money thoβ as I think the solicitor was authorised to do that. Itβs a few years ago now and the day is a blur.

In the Scriptorium today, the first bumblebee of the year has been sighted. Itβs a buff-tailed queen in one of the crocuses in the wildflower meadow.

The headline read "Billions wiped off US firms over fears of mass job lossses from AI"
So when there is mass unemployment when AI takes over, can someone tell me who they think will be buying all the things that keep the economy going? Am I being dim and missing something?

Today I wanted to research the route to publish the Scriptorium Chronicle.
What happened?
5 gallons of red wine decanted
2 sourdough granary loaves started
Laundry folded
Washing up done
Dishwasher emptied
Recycling taken out
I donβt want a medal. I just want to do what I set out to do.

An image taken from What3Words showing the location of misconduct.public.office and an arrow pointing to Big County Pizza
In the Scriptorium today, the scribes have been using What3Words and discovered that misconduct.public.office isn't far from Big Country Pizza, should anyone be needing an alibi.
In other news, they have been making up new words to an old nursery rhyme.

Close up photo of a scanned hand drawn and coloured illustration of a medieval snail holding a sword and shield. The background has been removed and speckles from the paper are being digitally edited out.
In the Scriptorium today, the scribes have downed brushes for the illustrations they have been working on and gone digital. Scanned originals are being retouched with the aid of keyboard and mouse. Side note: the mouse never touches any of the cheese they leave out for it.

Four illustrations adapted from original medieval manuscripts showing a chap stirring a barrel of what could be apples, or tomatoes, or something else that is red and round; an autumnal tree with brown leaves; a man warming his hands and bare feet by the fire for a cauldron; an old man and a woman in a headscarf with four large pies on a table between them.
In the Scriptorium today, the scribes have completed the first of the additional illustrations for βThe Scriptorium Chronicleβ. Now itβs time to do the grotesques (the weird marginalia critters found in the borders). Snails and rabbits will be involved as well. Let the fun commenceβ¦

Golden brown focaccia bread, topped with sun dried tomatoes, black olives, and rosemary.
As Iβve been doing more illustrations for βThe Scriptorium Chronicleβ and it was Fish Friday, I thought some focaccia would go well with the Mediterranean Fish Stew. I followed the updated recipe in βThe Scriptorium Cookbookβ (a companion piece) and this is the result. Not bad for a first attempt.

Stop Palantir taking over our public services!
Our public services arenβt for a secretive profit-hungry US tech firm. Sign the petition to tell the Government to scrap all contracts with secretive US tech firm Palantir.
Palantir, a US spy-tech firm, has been given access to millions of NHS patient records.
Its founder has said the NHS should be 'ripped up'.
Join me in calling on the government to end the dangerous Palantir contract.

On the left is an illumination taken from a medieval manuscript. It shows a stylised tree with a green trunk and oak-like green leaves. On the right is a pencil drawn version of the same tree. Each fits on an A5 sheet of paper.
As it has been a while since I last did this, Iβm starting the additional illustrations with an easy one. Pencils done; now to outline in black ink. The colour of the leaves will be different as I need a picture of autumn leaves. Seventeen more to do after this.

Four pages of illustrations taken from various illuminated medieval manuscripts to be used as samples for creating new illustrations. They include snails, rabbits, grotesques and a bloke warming his feet by a fire.
Iβve come to the conclusion that βThe Scriptorium Chronicleβ needs a final few illustrations. Have printed out a handful of samples to work from. No need for AI slop when youβve got inks, brushes and a can-do attitude.

Newsflash! I have finally finished the edit/rewrite/extra material/new ending of βThe Flipside Of Somewhenβ.
Started 35+ *years* ago, I can now see it aside for a little longer before going back for further editing. It feels good to have finally got this monkey off my back.
