We argue that generative AI systems should be understood and evaluated as cultural, interpretive technologies β not just predictive models. That shift has implications for how we design benchmarks, involve people in evaluation, and account for context. (2/5)
Our paper (see co-authors in the thread), "Computational hermeneutics: evaluating generative AI as a cultural technology", is now out in Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence. (1/5)
It was a truly rewarding week in Vienna! Many thanks to the organizers and the #DH community for the inspiring exchanges and insights into ongoing research. As always, we are already looking forward to next yearβs DHd! (4/4)
At the poster session, Mari and Steffi presented the editorial workflow of the fortext journal, from Call for Papers to publication. π Great conversations with participants sparked new ideas for future editions and underlined the ongoing importance of a focus on DH teaching. (3/4)
In the session βEpistemology & Interpretation,β @evelyngius.bsky.social made the case for measurement in DH, showing what analysis processes can learn from measurement theory, bridging everything from temperature to hermeneutic interpretation. A manifesto in the making. β¨ (2/4)

On Thursday morning, @evelyngius.bsky.social will give a talk on methods in the Digital Humanities. She will suggest to think of analyses in DH as measurement processes and explore what that could mean for our workflows. (2/4)
Some of us will be heading to Vienna next week for this year's #DHd2026 conference. We are looking forward to learning about current DH projects! Our team will be presenting a talk on measurement in DH and participating in the poster session with the forTEXT journal: (1/4)
We understand climate fiction to be texts that deal with the ecological, social, and emotional effects of man-made climate change...so we are primarily concerned with contemporary literature. It would be great if you could send us your ideas via DM or post them here. Thank you in advance! (2/2)
We are currently compiling a collection of German-language climate fiction novels. So we have a question for the community: Which texts come to mind for you? #climate-change-fiction #CLS #ecocriticism #climate-fiction #digitalhumanities #cli-fi #germanliterature #climate-change (1/2)
The approach looks promising and definitely worth exploring. So while Steffi dives back into STS literature to see what these frameworks can reveal about literary histories, weβre excited to watch the project unfold! (3/3)
β¨Literary histories intertwine complex contexts while shaping and stabilizing canon(s). This week we explored whether knowledge production within them can be analyzed with the help of ideas from Science & Technology Studies (STS). (2/3)
In this weekβs project seminar, Steffi from our team shared a peek at her PhD project, which explores the question: What shapes literary histories as texts? (1/3)
Many thanks to all colleagues and of course Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre for their trust and collaboration over the past three years π (4/4)
Seeing how positively our portals and services are received by the community makes the effort worthwhile. This is why we are already developing future visions to keep our work meaningful beyond this funding phase β so stay tuned! (3/4)
We revisited three years of projects, shared challenges and key learnings β and once again, it became clear that we are all in the same boat, navigating the everyday joys and hurdles of editorial and development processes together. (2/4)
