And the power difference between a 1.5 and 1.7 built how I’m doing it (91mm pistons, big valves, big cam, big carb, bigger intake and exhaust ports) is only ~5-10 horsepower.
And I’ve never driven a V4 that has been modified, so I don’t think I’ll miss those couple ponies.
1.5 and 1.7 had the same power new (65hp), which is because of the shorter pistons in the 1.7 which lowered the compression. So a 1.5 has higher compression without having to mill the block/heads, which introduces other complications.
They both have the same diameter pistons, but to get the extra 200cc’s, the pistons on a 1.7 are about 4mm shorter, and they have a longer crank throw. So a 1.5 is less stressed and more durable.
Yep, Ford of Germany “Taunus” V4. This one is a 1.7L (well 1698cc), that I’m going to be turning into a 1531cc engine.
The 2.9 and 4.0 V6’s in Ford Rangers/Explorers/Bronco II’s etc. are Ford of German “Cologne” engines, which are Taunuses with 2 extra cylinder.
