some scammers have a dataset associating numbers with places and name the local toll system based on that. i get scam texts naming EZ pass MA specifically, despite my number having a non-local area code

this is a recent national scam, it is not NYC specific. MA eliminated tollbooths nearly a decade ago, we also started getting these texts only recently. i've seen texts from other places too.
