If anybody happens to be in London, a great role just posted on one of my teams. Itβs focused on high-quality research and discovery in the AI+health space, and requires a clinical background. Details (including required experience) at www.google.com/about/career...

A photo of a Stellerβs Jay, with a blue body and black head, sitting on a branch.
A panoramic view of a hilltop with bright blue sky, some clouds, and the ocean in the distance.
Many things that I am thankful for, but one of them is the Long Ridge Preserve in the Santa Cruz mountains.
The ICU diary-as-intervention literature is pretty extensive. One great clinician writer who I donβt think is on Bluesky yet is Catherine Humikowski. Hereβs an example β jamanetwork.com/journals/jam... and there are more pointers at www.humikowski.com
Hey, #CriticalCare folks β Hannah Wunsch @hwunsch.bsky.social just made it over here π
A photo of a lecture by Effy Vayena on the implications of AI for bioethics
Really amazing to see #AI #ethics as the topic of Harvard Medical Schoolβs oldest endowed lecture (est. 1917 by George Washington Gay, class of 1868). Effy Vayenaβs talk was a tour de force on the implications of AI for bioethics.

My career has focused on patient safety & quality. Since Iβve now been at Google for a while, I often get asked what #AI means for quality & safety since weβre in the generative AI era. I wrote down some thoughts on the space, out now in BMJ Quality & Safety: qualitysafety.bmj.com/content/33/1....

I am *so* glad you explained this β had no idea what it was and couldnβt find it anywhere. Hereβs what it looked like for meβ¦
and thanks to @kbibbinsdomingo.bsky.social for having me on the podcast to do a deeper dive! edhub.ama-assn.org/jn-learning/...
All #AI is not the same. Grateful to get to share thoughts on a framework of AI 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 for healthcare in JAMA today:
AI 1.0 = symbolic AI and probabilistic models
AI 2.0 = the era of deep learning
AI 3.0 = foundation models and generative AI

Got out to Skyline Ridge just after the rain today
Welcome, @mlbarnett.bsky.social! Iβll add @laxswamy.bsky.social and @kbibbinsdomingo.bsky.social to the list!
Jupiter, somewhat grainy but with cloud bands clearly visible
Jupiter overexposed but with three moons visible in orbit.
These are fairly crummy photos, but they are just from a regular zoom lens plus a teleconverter. Itβs shocking to me that you can see Jupiter that way. I donβt think Iβm hallucinating the cloud bands in one, and in the other you can see three of Jupiterβs moons in orbit. #astrophotography
Well, ok, THATβS exciting and now I know how Iβll be spending the first week in Juneβ¦

HUGE congrats to the teams at Google DeepMind and across the company on this milestone.

* The prompting strategy used in the video demo (hint: multimodal prompting is next-level) developers.googleblog.com/2023/12/how-...
It's worth your time to watch this ~6 min video, if you're at all interested in what's next for #AI. youtu.be/UIZAiXYceBI
It can be hard to get a feel for WHY something is a technological step change ... but this demo of Googleβs next foundation model gives a good sense. It's pretty mind-blowing.
Picture of the Dumbell nebula against a starfield
Iβm amazed that itβs possible to take pictures of things like the Dumbbell Nebula from my back yard. The universe is wild. #NGC6853 #astrophotography
Hello, World!
So are we over here now?
Also, is #medsky the place to find interesting things?
