π βRather telling that the use of an antibiotic in a major water catchment only came to light because of a tip-off from a courageous member of the public, rather than from the independent regulator charged with protecting the public interest.β #politas

Meg Brown MP Shadow Minister for Heritage & Arts 11 February 2026 Liberals hand $35k heritage role to one of their own There are serious questions that need to be answered about the Liberal Governmentβs decision to appoint former Liberal Senator and recent two-time Liberal candidate Stephen Parry as Chair of the Tasmanian Heritage Council. Tasmanians are entitled to ask whether this role was filled on merit, or whether it is simply another example of the Liberals looking after their mates. This position attracts remuneration of around $35,000 a year β a tidy sum that would go a long way towards recouping the cost of a recent election campaign. The Government must explain what process was followed in appointing Mr Parry, how many candidates were considered, and what criteria were used to assess their suitability? What, if any, qualifications does Mr Parry actually hold for the role? Last we heard Mr Parry had a civil contracting business and a brand of gin. Itβs hard to see how this appointment makes sense. Tasmanians deserve confidence that appointments are made in the public interest β not as political rewards.
Labor asking questions about Parry's appointment as chair of the Tasmanian Heritage Council - they suggest the chair is paid about $35,000 a year #politas

Jon Kudelka cartoon for Tasmanian Inquirer to accompany an article on political donations reform for local government. The cartoon shows a rubbish truck labelled 'donations' emptying a sidewalk bin with a bystander saying "Sure, it's a bit of a loophole, but it does make bin night a bit more of an event ..."
Jon Kudelka cartoon for Tasmanian Inquirer to accompany an article on political donations reform in Tasmania. The Integrity Commission and many civil society groups wanted all donations over $1000 disclosed. The Liberal government wanted the threshold set at $5000. The cartoon shows two men in suits & dark sunglasses and each is pushing an empty shopping trolley in a store. Behind them is a box labelled "Lettuce's $999.95 each". One of the men asked the other "How much political influence could you possible buy for a thousand bucks these days?" To which the other responds, "I expect that's the point"
Jon Kudelka cartoon for Tasmanian Inquirer to accompany an article on political donations reform. Two people are sitting in an underground vault with a big bag of money falling from a chute in the ceiling. The bag is about to land in a wheelbarrow already heavily loaded with bags of money. The man said to the woman sitting next to him, "Of course, the tricky bit with donation reform is, and I'm aware we can't say this part out loud, not upsetting the donors".
Vale Jon Kudelka @kudelka.bsky.social and deepest condolences to family and friends
