‘Dark, like our future’: Iranians describe scenes of catastrophe after Tehran’s oil depots bombed
Residents report terror of smoke-filled city, from potentially toxic rain, air and water to food scarcity and difficulty of escape
“Even masks are becoming difficult to find. This is a huge mistake. I ask those who have the ability, especially foreign media, to reflect on this situation. What are people supposed to do under these conditions? This is truly a crime against humanity.”

The cost of everything is going up again and they aren’t going to lower it when oil prices come back down to earth

Having similarly dealt with far-right characters I’ve reported on engage in stalking / harassing behaviour to the point where lawyers needed to be engaged, I can say Canada’s laws are completely insufficient to deal with these problems and I have zero trust in the legal system to protect journalists

It's amazing people will claim "Canada and the USA have the same culture" and then on something as fundamental as "do you trust your fellow citizens to be good" we are further apart than any other two countries

The Tyee is proud to have published this important investigation by @rachelgilmore.bsky.social. We condemn this egregious harassment of a journalist for doing her job, and have offered support as she deals with this disturbing situation.

Seeing that no press freedom orgs have rushed to defend and help @rachelgilmore.bsky.social makes me ask, for the millionth time, what do CJFE, PEN, etc even do? Why exist at all when you do fuck all to fight censorship and intimidation?

Congrats to @themartlet.bsky.social for convincing UVic students to pay $2 more to support their campus paper — a tiny change that will make a massive difference for the paper and its ability to cover the campus. That's a big achievement, proud of them.

Savory Elementary is in Langford, as pointed out in the replies already.
Seems like a pretty large error to make on something so easily verifiable.

There are many, many reasons these types of laws are idiotic, but chief among them has to be demanding the public hand over their IDs and personal information to social media companies - SOCIAL MEDIA COMPANIES, who have not exactly demonstrated a great track record for privacy and safety.

BC Should End Costly Deals with Private Health Staffing Agencies | The Tyee
Growing use of the contractors has pushed up costs and hurt morale.
Despite the claims from the usual austerity-minded commentators that the sky is falling and spending needs to be slashed, B.C. has a revenue problem, not an expense problem, writes @alonghurst.bsky.social. #bcpoli

Pierre Poilievre’s great reset
The leader of the Conservative Party of Canada is rolling out a kinder and gentler version of himself. But can he stick to the script, or will he revert to his political instincts?
In the face of a double-digit Liberal lead, Pierre Poilievre is rolling out a new political approach that includes respect for his opponents and time for the mainstream media.
How long will it last? Grab that head of lettuce and start the clock. #cdnpoli

When the BC Conservatives voted for a bill to repeal the human rights code, the NDP caucus promptly put out a press release slamming the Cons who "couldn’t muster the courage to stand against it."

Mark Carney’s Stance On Iran Throws His Davos Doctrine Into Question
“What we’re hearing right now, at a time when it really matters, is … that we’re giving in.”
NEW: Mark Carney’s ‘regretful’ support for the U.S.-Israeli war of aggression against Iran is a capitulation to Trump, and an abandonment of any notion of ‘middle-power’ leadership.
