Marta’s story is not an exception.
Across cities worldwide, everyday mobility is shaped by overlapping layers of gender, disability, age and background.
Yet urban planning still ignores lived realities.
She recently declined a job offer,
not because of her skills, but because the accessible tram stops she needs are simply not connected.
Her right to the city stopped at the curb.
Marta uses a wheelchair.
The curb is too high.
The gentler ramp is blocked by a delivery van that’s been there since yesterday.
Ten more minutes. One more detour.
IFP is in Thessaloniki for the UPPER Project General Assembly, advancing sustainable and people-centred urban mobility.
