That's so cool Karim! Congrats to you, Joe and the other authors 🙂 Hope you celebrate that appropriately at the next Friday apéro 🎉
Last year I would have gotten funded - will say a lot of ECRs this morning #MSCA

@daothilab.bsky.social looked into its ORF2 protein and how it counteracts cell-intrinsic immune responses. Congrats Ann-Kathrin, Loan and team, and thanks for having us on board!

Can totally recommend the IGMM as an environment and @damsgregoire-lab.bsky.social lab. Nice people, nice projects. And it's south France, what else do you want 😁
hey bluesky 👋 visa hurdles mean I’m looking for opportunities outside the US. I’m a computational biologist (bacterial + phage genomics, postdoc in Koonin’s group @ NIH). I am interested in teaming up on funding apps. reach out if this resonates!
The number of proposals for MSCA postdoc increased by 64.6% this year while the budget decreased. This is bad especially knowing that last year already broke the records in terms of applications. Fingers crossed I am 1 out of 10... (Last year it would have been 1 out of 6...)
record 17,058 Marie Curie proposals in 2025 vs. 10,360 in 2024!!! the reason is pretty obvious, but wow that is a huge jump marie-sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/news/msca-po...
'TRIM28 is a target for paramyxovirus V proteins'. Work led by Gauthier Lieber seeks to address whether host activation of endogenous retroelements contributes to antiviral defences. In support of this idea, he describes a viral mechanism that might limit this host response.

The current administration has more successfully destroyed US science and the scientific enterprise than the hypothetical nuclear weapons program in Iran.
Now in press: Marie Lork & our collaborators studied host transposable elements during influenza A virus infection. We found evidence that some produce dsRNA, but that these host dsRNAs are limited from reaching the cytosol by the viral NS1 protein. @emboreports.org

“I would like to cure brain cancer. I think that's not particularly controversial.” Be that as it may, the NIH terminated that scientist's grant. Here's a huge survey of the 2,500 grants that NIH has killed or delayed...so far. Gift link: nyti.ms/43Jz1yJ
