Scottish Government figures released this week show that 29% of households are living in fuel poverty. Today, we’ve sent a letter to the leaders of all Scottish political parties calling on them to commit to urgent action to tackle this ahead of May’s parliamentary elections.

From April 1st the energy price cap will be set at £1,641 per year for a typical household - a reduction of 7% or £117 compared to current prices 📉
It’s important to remember that this figure is just an average. Your exact costs will depend on how much energy you use and what tariff you are on.

The coldness of Scottish homes has knock-on effects for the wellbeing, work and productivity of employees, too. At Changeworks, we provide a range of support and energy advice to help via our Low Carbon Living sessions for employers, and our Green Energy Helpline for householders.
Research carried out by Changeworks shows half of Scots say their homes are too cold, with over a third worried about affording energy bills this winter. Our survey also found that over a third (37%) of Scots are extremely or very concerned about being able to afford their energy bills this winter.
In Scotland, homes account for 13% of carbon emissions, and around one third of Scots are in fuel poverty. Key programmes must be scaled up in a way that means their impact increases over time to ensure Scotland meets its climate change plan and reduces fuel poverty.
We welcome the Scottish Government’s commitment to support heat decarbonisation and a just energy transition following yesterday’s Budget. However, we are concerned about cuts to key programmes that will help deliver these goals and benefit households across Scotland.
