Marking the 46th anniversary of the spill, on July 19, community members continue to fight for the long-promised Superfund cleanup.
βAcross the board, folks are saying: No new mines. No new weapons. Not until the cleanup is real.β
This story is about extraction, abandonment, and the communities still fighting for justice.

Congress is once again trying to sacrifice our public lands to give handouts to big industry. The Mining Regulatory Clarity Act would sell out our environment, public health, cultural resources, and cherished lands β all to benefit mining companies.

Following our story yesterday about the feds' decision to cancel a proposed ban on mineral mining in the Pecos watershed, NM's federal delegation is reintroducing a bill to protect the area.
The Navajo Nation's agreement with company Energy Fuels to allow uranium transport from a mine in Arizona to a mill in Utah has a provision regarding a proposed NM mine near Mt. Taylor.
If approved, that could mean a max of 50-60 uranium trucks a day across the nation and NW NM.

The No Rogue Rulings Act (H.R. 1526) would severely restrict the ability of federal courts to issue nationwide injunctions, weakening one of the most powerful tools courts have to prevent executive overreach and protect constitutional rights. Call Congress now & urge them to vote NO on HR 1526!

Thank you Sen. Wirth, Rep. Ortez & Sen. Gonzales for sponsoring SB21. We look forward to @GovMLG signing this into law so we can get to work with the NM Environment Department to build a state surface water permitting program to #ProtectNMWaters #nmpol
Victory for NM Water! The New Mexico Clean Water Bill (SB21) has passed the House & heads to the governor! This bill restores decades-old water protections lost to federal rollbacks & gives NM control over permitting. A big step for our rivers & communities!
In a huge win for NM, the Community Benefit Fund (SB48) has passed in the House and is headed to the governor for final approval! SB48 invests $210M in clean energy, economic diversification, jobs, sustainable economic growth, and more.

"The mines would be built close to the Navajo Nation, which bans uranium mining, and within a short drive of Cold War-era mine sites, Church Rock and Red Water Pond, that destroyed the environment and sickened generations of Indigenous people and New Mexicans."
