There are "modern traditionalists" (which he thinks are ridiculous), but they tend to do things like pattern the inside sleeves of garments and blend traditionalist features into more modern outfits. Emeric himself just does what he wants and looks good doing it so he's still popular (4/4)

Clothes and style are really important in his culture as they signal a lot of status, in group, etc (do they have the info to know which trends to follow), and to Emeric it's an expression of himself and that he doesn't need to follow trends to still have a lot of social clout. (3/4)

He was raised to be a traditionalist so he dresses in a lot of layers and patterns as opposed to the more sleek, modernist clothes of most of his peers. Flashy and dramatic like him. He prefers the style even if he disagrees with a lot of their ideology now. (2/4)

Emeric is technically the antagonist of book 1 along with being the love interest but I just want an excuse to lore dump LOL
