More cats as bookstands, please.

More cats as bookstands, please.
Tibbs the black and white cat stretching obscenely long.
Thank you so much! I really hope you enjoy it, Jem. Tibbs appreciates the cat photo thiiiiis much. πΊ
My copy of Ghosted by @alicevernon10.bsky.social arrived!! V bloody excited to delve into this over the weekend. (I've seen people post book hauls on, like, pretty flower wreaths and rustic tables etc but I didn't have any of that so I just put it on a cat.)

Thank you so much! βΊοΈ
While people have long believed in ghosts, our search to find them began relatively recently. @alicevernon10.bsky.social looks at our (not always rigorous) quest for evidence in "Ghosted: A History of Ghost Hunting, and Why We Keep Looking." @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social
Oh, wow! Thank you so much, Jem. I really hope you enjoy it. βΊοΈπ»
I'll be talking about ghost-hunters in the archives with Sarah Sparkes and Ben Machell. Doing research at Senate House Library was one of my favourite parts of writing Ghosted, so I can't wait to nerd out about it.

I'm taking part in @forteanlondon.bsky.social's Strange Central day of talks on 18th April. The programme looks brilliant - I'm even going to be extremely brave and watch the talks on UFOs despite my childhood phobia of flying saucers! ππΈ

This is fantastic! Congratulations, Agatha. I can't wait to read it. βΊοΈ
Aberystwyth University's paved concourse at night, in thick fog. Two large lights loom out of the fog.
I came out of teaching Writing Horror this evening to what felt rather like the setting of a horror movie...
Hahaha, I shall duly report back! π«‘
Thank you! βΊοΈ There's recently been a new pile of letters just released from embargo in the Senate House Library archive, and I'm absolutely itching to see them.
I'm very excited about this! I'll be talking about the work of Mollie Goldney. My obsession with her only grows stronger and more powerful.
It's going to be a really interesting day, so please book your tickets and come along! π
In the staff carpark this morning there are two metre-wide puddles of some sort of goopy mayo pasta salad and a half-deflated paddling pool. I have questions and I have some concerns. Also feel a bit queasy now. Maybe I'll just go home.
Tomorrow I'm speaking at the Society of Ink Slingers event, 'Writing the Occult: Love and Death'. I'll be talking about victorian mourning and dispelling a few persistent myths. It's an online full-day event of amazing speakers/writers, so do check it out.

Oh, Spiritbox are *so good*. I've been listening to them since I was a wee PhD student. Do check out their other stuff if you haven't already - they've got a cracking range of heavy and more poppy vibes. (Rule of Nines is a personal fave www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Bz...)
Thank you so much, Jason! βΊοΈπ»
Another awesome talk by Seed Talks.
A History of Ghost Hunting and Why We Keep Looking by an expert and bestselling author @alicevernon10.bsky.social that covered a historical look of ghost hunting and why it is still popular.

I'm giving a Seed Talks lecture on Ghosted very soon! Wednesday 21st January, 7pm, Arches London Bridge. It's a hybrid event, too, so you can tune in via Ouija board (or a computer if you prefer). It'd be lovely to see you there!

I had a brilliant time talking about ghosts, lizard people, superstition and haunted objects with Dan Schreiber on the We Can Be Weirdos podcast. I came to the conclusion that, yes, I'm definitely a weirdo.

Bev the Haunted Doll in a graveyard. She's got blonde wavy hair and a red gingham dress with a hood.
Thanks, Arthur! Hahaha, Bev is ready for stardom any day now...
I had a fantastic time chatting to Rick @sphericalpod.bsky.social about Ghosted! Thanks again for inviting me on the show. βΊοΈ
π» Dr Alice Vernon explores the eerie realβworld inspirations behind the BBC Ghost Story for Christmas, uncovering how a centuryβold story of haunted sleep still resonates - perhaps uncomfortably - with modern audiences.

Some Other Sphere returns next week with the first episode of 2026! My guest is author and academic Alice Vernon, who joined me to discuss her new book 'Ghosted: A History of Ghost Hunting and Why We Keep Looking'. Available next Wednesday! @alicevernon10.bsky.social #Podcast #Paranormal #Ghosts
I was interviewed with Mark Gatiss (not at the same time, though - I wish!) by the BBC about tonight's Ghost Story for Christmas, E. F. Benson's The Room in the Tower.

I wrote about this year's BBC Ghost Story for Christmas, E. F. Benson's 'The Room in the Tower', for The Conversation. Lots of spooky sleep in this one! I can't wait to watch it (and then have nightmares, obvs).

I'm thrilled to announce that in 2026, I'll be conducting an online lecture series for The Last Tuesday Society, looking at historical sΓ©ance, mediumship and Spiritualism.
The links to all 6 talks should be available here - www.eventbrite.co.uk/cc/dr-kate-c...
It's here! Joel Morris and I wrote a ghost story for the long winter nights, and Rosie Cavaliero, Carrie Quinlan, Josienne Clark and Victoria Moss breathed strange life into it. Turn off the lights and gather round the fire's glowing embers...
