Very cool new commentary by Killen et al in JEB advocating for incorporating more realistic social environments into comparative physiology research!

Really happy to share a super cool paper with my former grad student @tblanchard.bsky.social where we show that thermal performance curves for developing fish generated at constant temperatures donβt always allow you to predict how embryos will respond to fluctuating temperatures
Excited to share another paper from work I did during my PhD with @trishschulte.bsky.social and @madisonearhart.bsky.social. We looked at how fish embryos respond differently to constant and fluctuating temperatures! π
New paper out in #ES&T where we show that killifish exposure to crude oil has impacts (on embryo/larval development and transcriptome) that propagate to their offspring and to their grand-offspring. pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10....

Speaker spotlight!
@trishschulte.bsky.social studies how fishes' physiology, biochemistry & genetics adapt to challenging environmental conditions, like high temperature.
Hear from her at our symposium on 20 November. Online & in person tickets available.

i was recently interviewed by @csz-sczofficial.bsky.social about my phd, science, art, really all things π©π»βπ¬π§ͺπ π
still over the moon i got this award, sometimes i am still reminding myself that i did a phd π₯²
check it out! ππΌ

Little is known about the mechanisms controlling thermal acclimation in fish.
Check out this study exploring possible roles of hormones & skin thermoreception during acclimation in goldsinny wrasse.

Long lineup for advance polls for the Canadian Federal Election
Long line for advance polls in Vancouver for the Canadian Federal election. Maybe a sign for a high turnout. Great to see democracy in action
Congratulations to ConPhys Associate Editor Anne Todgham for being awarded this year's Bidder Lecture by @sebiology.bsky.social π
Praised by the judges for her "commitment to conservation. This is currently vitally important.β
Don't miss Anne's talk at SEB 2025 in Antwerp! Tuesday 8/7 17.30

In their Review, Kathleen Gilmour @uottawascience.bsky.social, Carol Best & Suzanne Currie discuss the physiological consequences of social status in fish, using the reactive scope model to explain the differences between dominant and subordinate fish

i havenβt done #sturgeonsaturday the past few weeks bc of *everything*
but its #internationalwomensday and we should recognize & celebrate incredible women in science!
